Only individuals currently employed in this department are eligible to apply. What's this Job All About? As a Human Services Supervisor, you will supervise staff who determine initial and continuing eligibility for public assistance benefit programs such as Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and CalWORKs, as well as employment services staff and office support staff. You will provide direction and guidance to eligibility, employment, & clerical staff and assist when needed on complicated cases or situations. You will handle a high volume of deadline-driven work while complying with changing State and Federal regulations and procedures. As a Human Services Supervisor, you will also assist in updating and/or creating new processes and training materials for eligibility, employment & office support staff.

QualificationsAny combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Option 1: One year as a senior/lead integrated case worker.
Option 2: Two years as an Integrated Case Worker, Eligibility Worker III, or Employment & Training Worker III.
Option 3: One year as an Eligibility Supervisor.
Option 4*: Three years of professional vocational guidance/employment services experience, including one year of lead or supervisory work.
Training: 18 semester units (or equivalent) in behavioral science-related coursework.
OR A bachelor’s in social work or a related field may substitute for one year of experience (not the lead/supervisory year).
*Qualifying experience under Pattern 4 above must have included duties and responsibilities involving the evaluation of income and other qualification criteria to be satisfied for participation in the program.
Persons may be appointed without satisfying the desirable educational requirements at the discretion of the appointing authority, subject to a condition that the employee satisfy the educational requirement during the probationary period. Failure to satisfy this educational requirement during the probationary period will constitute grounds for rejection during probation.
Supplemental InformationThe salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15. Government agencies accessing US government information, which includes federal tax information, must ensure that background investigation requirements for all agency employees and contractors that have access to federal tax information are consistent with the IRS background investigation requirements for access to federal tax information. A background check may be required if the position requires access to these types of records. Background requirements consist of three components, which include fingerprinting, citizenship verification, and local law enforcement checks. State agencies must conduct an investigation during the time of hire and ensure a reinvestigation is conducted 10 years from the date of the previous background investigation for each employee who has access to federal tax information.
