- Gathers, assembles, tabulates, proofs, extends, balances, summarizes, and posts fiscal, statistical, and related data; posts and maintains journals, subsidiary, and control ledgers; makes involved arithmetical computations.
- Audits documents for proper revenue and expenditure classifications; audits and corrects compiled payroll computer data reports; codes data according to prescribed accounting procedures; audits time and work reports and codes labor, equipment, and other costs for proper accounting distribution.
- Collects, balances, and accounts for warrants and funds; prepares warrants or checks; supervises the issuance of permits and the collection and receipt of funds; makes deposits.
- Provides lead direction, training and work review to assigned support staff; organize and assign work, set priorities and follow-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work; provides input into performance evaluations and disciplinary matters.
- Reviews and checks personnel requests, prepares forms and personnel reports and related documents.
- Receives and prepares invoices of purchases for payment; audits charges and obtains discounts; prepares interdepartmental billings.
- Prepares worksheets on expenditures, receipts, and the status of funds; compiles, checks, and tabulates budgetary estimates and expenditure reports; prepares regular and special financial statements.
- Explains financial and accounting procedures to other employees and the public.
- Uses a variety of office machines, including adding and bookkeeping machines, cash registers, personal computers, and calculators.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE This position requires a combination of education and experience reflecting the possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical combination would include the equivalent to graduation from high school and at least two years of experience in financial record keeping, accounting, bookkeeping or a related field. One year of lead duties is desirable. College coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field is desirable.

Knowledge of:
- Principles, procedures, and terminology used in financial record keeping.
- Bookkeeping and accounting methods and procedures.
- Principles and practices of office administration, record keeping, and filing.
- Business mathematics including percentages and decimals.
- Basic supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to:
- Lead, train and assign work to group of assistants or subordinates.
- Interpret and apply policies, regulations, and procedures within established guidelines.
- Perform detailed accounting work involving complex financial and statistical records and various types of clerical records.
- Interpret and resolve daily problems occurring in the normal flow of work.
- Operate a variety of office machines and equipment.
- Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of daily duties.
- Exercise sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
- Work under deadlines and coordinate several concurrent assignments.
- Work with minimum supervision.
THE SELECTION PROCESS Stage I: Application and Supplemental Questionnaire Evaluation (Pass/Fail)- The first stage in the selection process will consist of an application and supplemental questionnaire appraisal review (pass/fail). Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement to the next stage.
Only the most suitably qualified candidates will be invited to Stage II. Stage II: Assessment Examination (Weighted 100%)- The second stage of the selection process may consist of a combination of job-related situational project exercises and an oral panel interview designed to assess technical knowledge and any additional other KSAs. Job-related situational project exercises may consist of written exercises, performance exercises or other situational exercises that would assess the KSAs. The Assessment Examination is designed to test your overall aptitude for the position.
