IntroductionAbout the Position: The attorney hired for this position may provide general and transactional legal services and/or civil litigation related services. As a transactional attorney, the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in general municipal or governmental law or a related field to include reviewing and drafting contracts and licenses, ordinances, resolutions, public records and other general legal documents. As a civil litigation attorney, the ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of Arizona experience in complex civil litigation (such as personal injury, civil rights and employment law) and civil trials. This position may also provide legal services to one or more additional City departments and/or Boards or Commissions.
This position may be filled as an Assistant City Attorney I depending on experience and qualifications.
Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The midpoint salary is $132,870.40 (Assistant City Attorney I) and $139,526.40 (Assistant City Attorney II) annually.

- Five years' experience in the practice of law.
Assistant City Attorney I:- Graduation from a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association.
- Three years' experience in the practice of law.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements- Current membership in the Arizona State Bar Association.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.
