    The Position

    Head Group Supervisors and Assistant Head Group Supervisors supervise the care and custody of youth residing in a State Youth Training Center by: scheduling and planning work activities of home life staff; maintaining safety and security of facility, staff and youth; provide training; coordinating emergency situations; monitoring treatment plans; and performing related duties.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for an Assistant Head Group Supervisor (AHGS) located at Summit View Youth Center (SVYC)in Las Vegas. SVYC is a 48-bed secured facility serving close custody male youth ranging in age from 15-21. Summit View Youth Center's goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking. Under direct supervision, the incumbent performs the full range of duties in the series concept and participates as a member of a treatment team by assisting in the formulation and evaluation of a treatment plan and making recommendations on alternative treatment methods. The incumbent may be assigned to a specific discipline such as Intake Program manager, Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), PREA compliance manager, or serve as a Training Instructor for staff development and onboarding. Additionally, the AHGS assigns unit staff, both relief and permanent, by overseeing activities, job assignments, and performance. He/she provides specific direction of activities and follow-up to ensure completion of assignment in established manner and within allotted time frames. This is a full-time position with a variety of available work schedules. Applicants should list all relevant employment history. The Division is particularly interested in work experience involving working with the public or clients and coordinating or supervising work, people, or activities including experience working with clients or employees in a custodial, employment program, therapeutic, educational, recreational program or correctional setting experience.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice or closely related field and three years of experience which involved the supervision, direction or training of youth through the implementation of educational, youth employment, vocational training, rehabilitation or counseling programs, or providing casework services in a youth employment program, parole and probation, corrections, rehabilitation, or in a public service setting; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Group Supervisor IV in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 62B.270 and the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, applicants must submit to a criminal and child abuse background check and said background must be clear of any disqualifying offenses. This position requires a State of Nevada/FBI background check. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. This position is required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
