Vacation & Sick Leave At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally,
employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service). Holidays The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
Retirement This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12%, per fiscal year.
2GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision performs skilled mechanical/technical work in the maintenance and repair on a variety of automotive, public safety, and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties

- Utilizes diagnostic test equipment to test equipment and assess performance.
- Solves complex computer-controlled systems, drivability and electrical problems.
- Inspects, maintains and repairs various automotive equipment.
- Diagnoses and repairs of major component systems such as engine (gas/diesel), transmission (automatic/manual), differentials, brakes (automotive/heavy duty to include air, abs and hydraulic) and sub-systems relating to drive ability, electrical system, fuel systems, hydraulic systems and comfort control systems
- Installs auxiliary equipment and emergency lighting
- Maintains records of repairs made, work orders and time worked in fleet management information system (FMIS).
- Orders parts as needed, enters data into computer system, maintains records of parts requisitions, inventory and work orders
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment with focus on workplace safety and compliance with safety and health standards for injury prevention; effectively utilize personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Inspects, maintains and repairs various specialized fire apparatus equipment.
- Inspects, repairs, replaces, mounts/balances heavy duty tires.
- Performs other duties as assigned
3Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of specialized experience in vehicle maintenance and repairs; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Certifications: Master Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automotive and Level I EVT certification, including ASE T4, T5 and EVT F1 and F2 required at time of hire.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:- Hazards and safety precautions of a fleet technician
- Methods, materials and practices of a fleet technician
- Water hydraulics (including water pumps, valves, governors and relief valve systems)
- Mig, tig and arc welding fabrication
- Daily use of fleet management information systems in daily activities
- City and Fleet policies and procedures
- Advanced principles and practices of vehicle and equipment repair and service procedures
- Safety standards and practices in a shop environment
- Procedures and methods used in the maintenance/repair of diesel fire engines, pumps and aerial type equipment
- Firefighting equipment and apparatus
- Firefighting methods and maintenance practices
- Principles of all types of fire apparatus electronic control systems
- Procedures and methods of aerial ladder and hydraulic maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
Skill in & Ability to:- Working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands
- Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software
- Work independently, as well as cooperatively in a team environment
- Lead an effective team focused on quality of work and exceptional customer service
- Diagnose complex problems, identify solutions, and implement as appropriate
- Diagnose and repair automotive vehicles and equipment
- Work under pressure, interruptions, and changing priorities
- Work safely with power tools, welders and high-pressure testing equipment when testing air condition, coolant, fuel and hydraulic systems.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work
- Diagnose and repair heavy duty/public safety vehicles and equipment
12-Month Goals:- Obtain NIMS IS-100 certificate
- Obtain NIMS IS-700 certificate
- Meet 80% of direct billable hours
- Achieve ADEQ emission inspection license
- Achieve EVT Level II certifications
- Attend at least two in-state fire training related classes
4Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License; must maintain required certifications; must provide own tools.
Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors and in repair and maintenance facilities; able to safely lift 50lbs from the ground to waist high; work indoors, outdoors, stairs, ladders, confined areas and high places
