The Position Job Description This classification enters a formalized agreement to participate in a four-year training program of both on-the-job and classroom learning. Upon completion of this commitment, the apprentice is tested for the journey level proficiency. Apprentices are indentured to a joint labor/management committee that is responsible for every aspect of the apprentice's professional development.

Reporting Relationships This position reports to Power Plant Shift Supervisor.

An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Working Conditions Work is performed indoors in shops or operating facilities or outside in a variety of field and weather conditions.
Work is performed on a 12-hour rotating shift basis, including nights and weekends.
Emergency response may be required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Physical requirements include ability to:
- Work in a hot and noisy environment.
- Work around oils and greases.
- Stand and walk during shift operations.
- Move equipment etc. weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Climb stairs and ladders.
Incumbents must:
- Work independently and/or in a team setting.
- Comply with the National Standards Institute's requirements on practices for respiratory protection and hearing loss.
- Use protective clothing and follow safety procedures when working with toxic chemicals.
- Remain calm in emergencies.
- Adhere to the schedule of problems and drawings set forth by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.

Selection Process EVALUATION OF APPLICATION: Submitted application will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements. All qualifying applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process.
WRITTEN EXAM: (Pass/Fail ) To evaluate the applicant’s ability and technical skills to be successful in this position and how it relates to the job.
Approximately the top 25 highest scoring candidates who achieve a minimum passing score of 70.00% on the performance exam will be invited to the oral interview exam.
ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weight of 100%) To evaluate the applicant's experience, education, and general background for the position.
Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 70.00% on the oral interview in order to be placed on the eligible list.
TIME AND PLACE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED. Any evaluation will be based on the candidate's education and experience as related to the position. Any examination will be to evaluate the candidate's education, experience, knowledge, and skills for the position. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the above stated examination components and/or weights. Should this be necessary, the candidates will be notified of the specific examination components and weights prior to the administration of any examination. The selected candidate will be subjected to a background check including Livescan fingerprinting.
