    Student Programs & Events Coordinator
    (Student Services Professional III)

    Compensation and Benefits

    Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,540 - $5,817 per month

    Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,540 - $7,893 per month
    • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

    Area of consideration is limited to on-campus, state funded employees only.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Job Summary

    Reporting and supervised by the Director of the Jan & Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning, the Student Programs and Event Coordinator performs highly complex professional Student Services work including advising the Richter Center Student Leaders program, which include the SERVE Committee, Alternative Break, and other student leadership programs. This position develops, plans, promotes, assesses, and oversees a wide variety of detailed and diverse projects and programs related to student development, community engagement and service-learning. This includes critical analysis of these projects and programs which may lead to policy and guidelines changes and consideration of the impact changes have on other areas. The Student Services Personnel recruits and supervises Richter Center Student Leaders, the Special Projects Student Assistant, the Special Projects Intern, and the Recruitment Student Assistant. Intermittent evening and weekend work required.

    Key Qualifications
    • Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices in community engagement and service-learning.
    • General knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends in Student Services field.
    • General knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of organizational, personnel, and program management.
    • General knowledge of research and interview techniques.
    • General knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior, advising and counseling.
    • Knowledge of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages. (Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, social media).
    • General knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.
      • Skills/Ability to:
        • Excellent English oral and written communication skills with ability to develop and deliver effective presentations, trainings and/or workshops.
        • Interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and ability to collaborate across organizational lines.
        • Advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters and determine appropriate courses of action.
        • Reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems.
        • Plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations.
        • Analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
        • Understand roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations, and goals of the members of the organization served.
        • Establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.
        • Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with confidential information and exercise good judgment on sensitive matters.
        • Ability to serve as a resource to students, staff and the community in responding to inquiries and providing detailed information concerning campus news and events.
        • Organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and projects under competing deadlines and maintain flexibility in response to constantly shifting priorities.
        • Perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data, and make simple projections.
        • Ability to conduct ongoing analysis and evaluation of operations and systems to enhance processes to meet programmatic goals.

    Education and Experience
    • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.
    • Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
      • Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Services, Higher Education Administration or other related areas may be substituted for one-year professional experience.
      • A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance, or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience.

    The Jan & Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning is responsible for coordinating the university’s community engagement and service-learning efforts.
