    The Position

    Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This position is in the Specifications Section of the Design Division, Carson City. Incumbent performs engineering work to provide Quality Control/Quality Assurance of plan, specification, and estimate submittals including verifying unit prices of proposed bid items; reviews the project scope of work, methods of construction and items of work involved, and determines whether requirements are clearly stated in the plans and standard specifications or whether requirements need to be addressed in special provisions. This position will also compile and write special provisions. When necessary, incumbent will generate supplemental special provisions for advertised contracts to incorporate changes into the bid package before bids are submitted. ** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A STAFF II, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
