The Position Tax Examiners are responsible for licensing/registration, collecting taxes and fees, and assisting taxpayers to ensure compliance with the applicable tax and registration statutes.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Department of Taxation is seeking a Tax Examiner 2 in Carson City. Tax Examiners are responsible for assisting taxpayers with registrations, collection of fees, and resolving account issues by analyzing and correcting taxpayer accounts for discrepancies in reporting. Tax Examiners answer taxability questions over the telephone, in person and through correspondence. The main purpose of the Tax Examiner is to assist the taxpayers quickly and accurately by applying laws and statutes. There is a broad range of areas that the tax examiners are required to be knowledgeable in, to include (but not limited to) Sales and Use tax, Modified Business tax, Commerce Tax and basic knowledge of Excise tax types.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in bookkeeping, collections, or the interpretation and application of policies, regulations and/or legal requirements equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III or Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as stated above; OR one year of experience as a Tax Examiner I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Positions in this series may require agency specific education and/or experience that will be identified at the time of recruitment. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
