    Position Summary

    San Diego State University is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Assignment Analyst to support housing operations with a focus on occupancy management and procurement activities. This role ensures effective housing processes, strong financial oversight, and responsive service for students and campus stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Occupancy Management
      • Oversee housing applications, room assignments, move-in/move-out procedures, payment operations, and scheduling for housing facilities.
      • Analyze occupancy trends, recommend projections and budgets, and evaluate housing exemption requests.
      • Monitor student contracts, address complaints, and coordinate special accommodation needs in collaboration with campus departments.
      • Provide work direction and training to housing support staff and contribute to process and policy improvements.
    • Procurement Management
      • Monitor housing-related expenses, forecast operational needs, and ensure financial policy compliance.
      • Support budget development, contract review, financial reporting, and vendor coordination.
      • Maintain inventory, process purchases, and manage vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery and accurate recordkeeping.
      • Collaborate with finance and administrative teams to implement cost-saving strategies and ensure procurement efficiency.

    Position Information
    • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
    • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • This position is eligible for telecommuting up to 1 day per week, following a training period during which on-site presence is required.

    Department Summary

    The Division of Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for ensuring a safe, productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure, and human resources at San Diego State University.

    The Office of Housing Administration (OHA) is a self-funded operation responsible for planning, providing, and administering housing operations, services, and facilities with over 100 employees and more than 150 student assistants. With an annual operating budget exceeding $159 million, OHA provides housing for over 9,000 students, live-in professional staff, and faculty across 25 residential buildings totaling more than 2 million square feet of residential facilities. OHA also operates SDSU-IV housing at the Imperial Valley campus. OHA manages the operation of residence halls, apartments, and conference and event spaces. In partnership with the Residential Education Office (REO), OHA supports the educational mission of the university while providing the business operations for all housing-related functions, ensuring a high-quality environment that enhances the student educational experience.

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    Key Qualifications
    • Foundational knowledge of housing operations and policies.
    • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present information in a clear and concise manner.
    • Working knowledge of student organizations, collegiate policies, and communications.
    • Strong organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects and large operations.
    • Ability to communicate with students, parents, and families in a sensitive manner while maintaining confidentiality.
    • Knowledge of FERPA and related privacy laws with the ability to apply them in managing and safeguarding university housing information.
    • Advanced skills on Excel and/or Google Spreadsheet.
    • Experience utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance efficiencies in occupancy management processes, including forecasting, error reduction, and data-driven decision making.
    • Prior university housing experience preferred.
    • Prior Oracle (PeopleSoft) and StarRez experience preferred.
    • Valid California Driver’s License preferred.

    Compensation:
    Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department’s budget and equity guidelines.
    • Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($4,617) for qualified candidates.
    • CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,617 - $6,727 per month (Step 1 - Step 20).
    • Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
