The Position
Instruct students in a discipline or field by providing both classroom instruction and hands-on training (on the job training) to teach vocational skills, work ethics and appropriate safety for the skill; evaluate student's progress through written and oral assignments and practical work evaluation to assess progress towards educational goals; evaluate students on quality of work, initiative, attitude, ability to follow instructions and peer relations to assess progress toward attitudinal goals.
The Division of Child and Family Services is seeking a Vocational Education Instructors for Independence High School at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko-a 60-bed facility for male youth ages 12-18. Under the Principal's direction, instructors will teach automotives, assess student goals, and report any misassignments. Instruction will align with state standards and prepare students for a Nevada High School diploma through remedial and higher-order learning. Instructors must maintain organized materials and lesson plans at least one week in advance and evaluate students who fall behind. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with overtime after 40 hours per week. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Possession of a Special Occupational Business and Industry license issued by the Nevada Department of Education. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. Additional Position Criteria This position requires a valid Nevada Dept. of Education Business and Industry license in an automotive area or in automotive service. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
