The Position Instruct students in a discipline or field by providing both classroom instruction and hands-on training (on the job training) to teach vocational skills, work ethics and appropriate safety for the skill; evaluate student's progress through written and oral assignments and practical work evaluation to assess progress towards educational goals; evaluate students on quality of work, initiative, attitude, ability to follow instructions and peer relations to assess progress toward attitudinal goals.
The Division of Child and Family Services is seeking a Vocational Education Instructors for Independence High School at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko-a 60-bed facility for male youth ages 12-18. Under the Principal's direction, instructors will teach automotives, assess student goals, and report any misassignments. Instruction will align with state standards and prepare students for a Nevada High School diploma through remedial and higher-order learning. Instructors must maintain organized materials and lesson plans at least one week in advance and evaluate students who fall behind. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with overtime after 40 hours per week. Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Possession of a Special Occupational Business and Industry license issued by the Nevada Department of Education. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. Additional Position Criteria This position requires a valid Nevada Dept. of Education Business and Industry license in an automotive area or in automotive service.
