    Job Summary

    Reporting to Director of Resources and Operations of the Lurie College of Education, receives work direction from the Director of Field Experience and with a dotted line of reporting to the Department Chairs for Teacher Education and Special Education, the Field Placement Coordinator will serve as the main point of contact for arranging student teaching placements for 300 to 400 candidates' field experience each semester. The coordinator works primarily with school district administrators, site principals, and mentor teachers to maintain positive school district-university relationships to support the quantity, quality, and variety of field placements needed such that SJSU remains a high priority for partner school districts.

    The coordinator orients candidates to the field placement process, reviews candidates’ eligibility to begin the field experience, and responds to questions from candidates, school district personnel, faculty, and other San Jose State University staff. The position will require someone who is adept at written and verbal communication and well-versed in communicating with students and school district partners. Given the College’s focus on emancipatory education, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion policies and practices.

    The coordinator also works on special projects as assigned to support the Departments’ admissions processes and student success projects.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for student teaching placements.
    • Build, distribute and collate data from student surveys on placement needs and preferences each term.
    • Contact schools to secure field placements and establish school-based partnerships for field and clinical practicum students.
    • Deliver placement presentations in assigned classes each term for students about to enter the field.
    • Create and maintain database for accurate records for all field placements; disseminate and track required documentations, provide placement data to data manager for the College of Education.
    • Work with Lurie College Administrators to request Student Teaching and Intern MOUs as needed to fulfill placement needs.
    • Developing teacher candidates’ program plans.
    • Use a database to track enrollment, scheduling, advising, and program planning.
    • Update and develop written and online materials that help students and faculty navigate program requirements.
    • Develop and maintain professional contacts with job-alike and complementary roles at SJSU and elsewhere, attend professional development courses, attend regional and national conferences as needed.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Experience establishing and maintaining effective, cooperative, and harmonious working relationships in circumstances that involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.
    • Experience carrying out complex assignments without detailed instructions.
    • Experience collecting and evaluating data to organize complex information.
    • Demonstrated ability to use software applications such as google docs/drives, excel spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
    • Knowledge of and ability to consistently apply FERPA regulations; awareness of the importance of student confidentiality.
    • Strong-problem solving and creative thinking skills, as well as exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Willingness and experience to present information to student groups.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Experience maintaining documentation for accountability purposes.


    Required Qualifications
    • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training.
    • Four years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent.
    • Experience working in or with public elementary, middle or high schools.
    • Experience using and learning technology (Google suite, Zoom, Canvas or other Learning Management System) to effectively communicate.
    • Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
    • Credential to teacher K-12 and/or Special Education in California.
    • Experience supporting teacher candidates and/or new teachers.


    Compensation

    Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Exempt II
    Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,658/month - $6,927/month (Step 8 - Step 10)
    CSU Salary Range: $5,797/month - $ 8,445/month (Step 1 - Step 20)
