    MULTIMEDIA PRODUCER
    (SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT)


    SALARY INFORMATION

    Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

    OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

    This recruitment is being held to establish an open eligible list to fill current and future Multimedia Producer (Senior Library Assistant) vacancies within OC Community Resources/OC Public Libraries. The eligible list established may also be used to fill similar and lower-level classifications throughout the County of Orange.

    OC COMMUNITY RESOURCES (OCCR)
    OC Community Resources is a multi-faceted department comprised of OC Animal Care, OC Community Services, OC Housing & Community Development, OC Parks, and OC Public Libraries.

    OC Public Libraries

    OC Public Libraries is a network of 29 branches serving 23 cities and unincorporated areas of the County of Orange, plus a branch for Orangewood Children's Home residents. We provide residents with access to books, digital resources, programs, and knowledgeable staff to support learning, reading and community engagement. OC Public Libraries is a division of OC Community Resources.

    The Opportunity

    The Sr. Library Assistant / Multimedia Producer is a hybrid role that blends advanced library support with creative media production. Under the supervision of Librarians and Branch Managers, the Sr. Library Assistant performs a wide range of paraprofessional library tasks while also leading the production of multimedia content that promotes programs, services, and community engagement.

    This position represents the highest level in the Library Assistant series, distinguished by increased responsibility, specialized skills, and leadership in branch programs, outreach, and office functions. In addition, the Multimedia Producer responsibilities expand the role to include filming, editing, and producing video, audio, and digital content for the library system.

    The ideal candidate is equally comfortable supporting patrons, guiding volunteers, and managing library services as they are behind a camera or in an editing suite, helping to bring the library’s story to life both in person and online.

    Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
    • Lead the development, production, and editing of multimedia content to promote library programs, services, and resources
    • Film and photograph library events, programs, and community engagement activities
    • Edit and produce video and audio content using industry-standard tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere, iMovie, Audition, Canva)
    • Design and deliver digital content for social media, the library website, and other online platforms
    • Support live-streaming, hybrid programming, and digital outreach efforts
    • Collaborate with library units to create compelling storytelling pieces that highlight services, staff, and community impact
    • Ensure multimedia content adheres to accessibility, branding, and quality standards
    • Maintain, organize, and archive multimedia equipment, files, and assets
    • Assist in the setup and technical support of press-related or public-facing events


    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES

    In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess:

    At least one (1) year of experience in one or more of the following areas: multimedia production, graphic design, visual arts, photography, video/audio editing, or digital content creation.

    Additionally, it is highly desirable for the ideal candidate to possess:

    •Knowledge of public library operations

    •A Bachelor’s Degree

    •Four (4) years of experience as a Library Assistant performing similar responsibilities.

    •Strong experience with patron service, collection support, and library operations, including monetary transactions and use of ILS systems.

    •Proven ability to balance library responsibilities with media production to support community engagement.

    •Ability to film and edit author interviews, post-event highlights, and promotional content.

    •Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve).

    •Familiarity with podcast editing tools (Audacity, Adobe Audition, or GarageBand).

    •Experience with motion graphics, closed captioning, and accessibility best practices.

    •Background in media production within libraries, education, or nonprofit settings.

    TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
    • Understands procedures and practices of a public library
    • Demonstrates advanced proficiency in video and audio production, editing, and digital content creation
    • Demonstrates the ability to film and photograph in various indoor and outdoor settings
    • Creates graphics, titles, closed captions, and effects to produce accessible and engaging multimedia content
    • Utilizes tools such as Adobe Premiere, Audition, iMovie, Canva, and Photoshop
    • Demonstrates the ability to research current trends and implement new multimedia and digital storytelling techniques
    • Maintains and organizes multimedia equipment, files, and digital assets


    PLANNING & ORGANIZATION
    • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize numerous complex projects and deliver high-quality multimedia content in a timely manner, including under short deadlines or notice
    • Demonstrates the ability to maintain and organize the library’s digital asset management systems such as SharePoint and OneDrive
    • Assists with and/or creates branch programs, outreach initiatives, and special events
    • Creates publicity materials and digital content to effectively promote library services, programs, and initiatives
    • Ensures all multimedia content adheres to accessibility standards, branding, and messaging guidelines
    • Assists in the coordination, setup, and technical support of press-related or public-facing events


    TEAMWORK
    • Collaborates effectively with colleagues, library units, and management to achieve common goals
    • Acts as an advisor or consultant to staff on multimedia projects and digital communication strategies
    • Understands the library’s vision and mission and contributes to team success across the organization
    • Supervises and supports library volunteers as needed


    ORAL & WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS
    • Communicates clearly and effectively with patrons, staff, and community partners
    • Demonstrates the ability to write, edit, and present information in multiple digital formats (e.g., social media, video captions, newsletters)
    • Presents new information and multimedia content in a professional, engaging, and organized manner
    • Demonstrates strong storytelling skills to convey library programs, services, and impact

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS
    Human Resource Services (HRS) screens all application materials for minimum and/or desirable qualifications. After screening, applicants who meet the minimum and/or desirable qualifications will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process.     Structured Oral Interview (SOI) | (Weighted 100%)
    Candidates will be interviewed by a panel of SME’s (Subject matter experts). Each candidate's rating will be based on responses to a series of questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the job. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on to the eligible list.

    Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures above may be modified. Candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedures.

    Eligible List
    Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
