Completes auditing work which includes investigating, reviewing, and analyzing financial information, internal controls, operational performance, and management practices to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and local, state, and federal laws, statutes, and guidelines.
Job Description:Purpose:This position supervises staff who perform work on and near the Airport Operations Areas (AOA) of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations and the Airport Certification Manual (ACM).
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Ensures AUS is in compliance with 14 CFR Part 139; applicable 150 Series Advisory Circulars (ACs); the ACM; and other relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations by continuously monitoring airfield inspection activities. Audits inspection reports to ensure all required inspections are being completed, findings and appropriate corrective actions documented, and follow-up inspections are performed.
- Supports the Airport Duty Manager in managing, coordinating, and resolving AUS emergencies such as alerts, severe weather, irregular operation, security breaches, and other events affecting airport operations in accordance with the Airport Emergency Plan and National Incident Management System (NIMS) methodology; and serves as airport field representative until relieved by supervisory authority.
- Contributes to planning meetings for airfield activity; and conducts audits of operational activity and airport facilities on and near the AOA to evaluate team performance in maintaining compliance as it pertains to policy, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Identifies and anticipates operational and safety concerns by inspecting airport facilities and operating areas and monitoring radio communications; ensures timely reporting of hazards and provides guidance and suggestions for mitigation; and ensures enforcement of airport safety policies and procedures.
- Provides recommendations on changes to airport policies and procedures.
- Reviews distributed Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs) for accuracy and compliance with AC 150/5200-28 and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Job Order (JO) 7930.2.
- Initiates communication with airlines, tenants, and airport personnel to resolve problems pertaining to airside operations and to explain airport policy.
- Oversees daily resource management activities and review of Airport Operations Database (AODB) for accuracy and completeness; serves as a liaison between scheduling activities of an Airport Airside Operations Manager and day-to-day utilization of resources by the Airport Operations team.
- Supervises the administration of the Ground Support Equipment Registration and Monitoring Program (GSE RAMP) by reviewing the inspection program, ensuring inventory of equipment is maintained, and resolving discrepancies.
- Provides supervision of airfield training programs; is responsible for administering and disseminating training materials.
- Keeps abreast of all ongoing changes to Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations related to the position, FAA advisory circulars, Airport Security Program, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) directives; and maintains proficiency by passing regularly scheduled examinations.
- Operates automated and networked information display systems, video cameras, monitors, and radio and communication systems.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, staff scheduling, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for disciplinary actions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 139 and related regulations to manage and maintain aircraft operations.
- Knowledge of airport property; other facilities within the airport; and aircraft types, size, seating capacity, evacuation routes, etc. to manage operations and emergency events.
- Knowledge of airport operations sufficient to be able to direct, manage, and control field operations.
- Knowledge of NIMS to work with other agencies and departments during all airport emergencies.
- Knowledge of safety and security practices to coordinate and provide security.
- Knowledge of the simultaneous use of several radio frequencies sufficient to be able to provide and receive information from airport, FAA, airline, and other personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Aviation Management, Airway Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, plus three (3) years of airport operations work experience, including one (1) year of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- One (1) year of directly related professional experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required education up to four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:- Valid Texas Class "C" Driver License.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain Federally-mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.
Notes to Candidate:The Airport Airside Operations Supervisor (Ramp Control) will provide day-to-day supervision to the team of ramp controllers who will control the aircraft movement on the ramp area of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The candidate should have the skills and acumen to provide the following:
- Supervision and Leadership: Oversee and manage the day-to-day operation of the interim AUS virtual ramp control center.
- Operational Planning: Manage the ramp control team schedule, ensuring adequate shift coverage. Create shift schedules, allocate resources, and coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth operations on the ramp.
- Compliance and Safety: Perform quality audits to identify trends and determine the qualification of the ramp controllers to work unsupervised to ensure all ramp control activities comply with safety regulations, airport policies, and industry standards.
- Training and Coordination: Oversee new-hire training and conduct recurrent training of certified controllers. Coordinate with stakeholders to resolve any issues or conflicts regarding ramp control operation.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Conduct annual performance review (SSPR) of ramp controllers. Take corrective actions if performance falls short of the standard set forth. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate operational metrics and performance to higher management.
Work Hours:Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Shift may change according to departmental needs; work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work.
Salary:$34.46 - $43.41
Driving Requirement:This position requires a Valid Texas Class "C" Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Travel:If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
Driving on City business: This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties, and the individual may be required to drive their own personal vehicle or a city vehicle. Successful candidate must be in possession of a Texas driver’s license as authorized by the Texas Transportation Code. A driving record verification will be conducted.
