    The Position

    Head Group Supervisors and Assistant Head Group Supervisors supervise the care and custody of youth residing in a State Youth Training Center by: scheduling and planning work activities of home life staff; maintaining safety and security of facility, staff and youth; provide training; coordinating emergency situations; monitoring treatment plans; and performing related duties.

    Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

    The Head Group Supervisor oversees the care and custody of youth at a State Youth Correctional Center. This role includes planning and scheduling staff activities, ensuring safety and security, coordinating emergency responses, monitoring treatment plans, and providing staff training. As a manager, the incumbent supervises and evaluates subordinate supervisors, develops policies and procedures, and allocates resources to meet facility goals. Reporting to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, this position is part of the NYTC leadership team and ensures all departments follow policy and procedure. Key responsibilities include ensuring safe and secure delivery of programming and services that support youth development; Assigning work, preparing shift schedules, and conducting facility inspections; Developing and implementing facility policies and procedures; Conducting youth intake interviews to determine appropriate placement; Assessing and responding to health and security risks; Preparing daily operational reports and treatment progress summaries; Writing parole reports; Leading emergency responses for incidents like runaways, aggression, or medical needs; Being available for after-hours emergencies and supporting the overall goals and objectives of the facility and division.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent (G.E.D.) and seven years of experience in youth employment, parole and probation, corrections, rehabilitation, or in a public service setting which involved the supervision, direction, or training of youth through the implementation of educational, youth employment, vocational training, rehabilitation or counseling programs, or providing casework services; OR graduation from an accredited college or university in counseling and guidance, psychology, social services, sociology, criminal justice, education, or related field, and five years of experience as described above; OR two years of experience as an Assistant Head Group Supervisor in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience and with at least two years of experience comparable to the Assistant Head Group Supervisor. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 62B.270 and the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, applicants must submit to a criminal and child abuse background check and said background must be clear of any disqualifying offenses. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
