The Program Development Coordinator monitors and evaluates PARD’s partnerships, programs, initiatives, and agreements-and works to strengthen and grow the Austin PARKners program. Through the Austin PARKners Program, nonprofit organizations, conservancies, community groups, and businesses are invited to partner with the Parks and Recreation Department to enhance and improve parks, increase recreational and cultural opportunities, and preserve Austin’s natural areas.
The program is committed to partnerships that align with the Department’s mission, vision, and values while providing clear public benefit and supporting the Austin parks system. This position also advances Nature Play in Austin’s green spaces and expands opportunities to connect families and children to nature throughout the Austin Park system.
Job Description:Program Development CoordinatorPurpose:Under general direction, this position is responsible for the successful development and management of programs in accordance with the strategic direction.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Oversees the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and sponsored special events.
- Leads initiatives related to community needs and outreach. Ensures the programs and services offered contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities and approved budget.
- Works with internal and external individuals to identify/plan program themes.
- Monitors the delivery of the programs and events to maintain or improve quality.
- Provides regular program reports.
- Works with director on program-related sponsorships, grants, and contributions.
- Keeps all parties apprised of ongoing program-related budget issues.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised: May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in a field related to the job.
- Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years
Licenses and Certifications Required: None.
Preferred Qualifications:Preferred Experience:- Experience facilitating discussions between external partners and internal city staff.
- Experience monitoring agreements/contracts for a public agency (City, County, State or Federal).
- Experience in nonprofit governance practices.
- Experience managing or coordinating stewardship activities or improvement projects on public lands, including oversight of volunteers, contractors, or partner organizations.
Preferred Skills:- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
Other: - Ability to travel to more than one work location.

- Driver Safety Standards: This position requires candidate to possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. If you cannot meet these conditions, you may be deemed ineligible for this position.

- Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to twenty (20) pounds. Work environment includes inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and you must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with participant’s needs and safety issues.
Other Information:- Travel: If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you will drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
