Job SummaryThe City of Olathe is looking for an experienced individual to fill a temporary GIS Analyst II or III position for a span of up to 6-months. The GIS Analyst creates and maintains departmental GIS spatial and non-spatial data. This position generates reports, maps, graphs, charts, or other output in support of departmental business processes and analyzes GIS spatial and non-spatial data for quality control/quality assurance purposes. The successful candidate will be hired into the appropriate level based on experience and skill.
Work is performed on-site at our Olathe office. This position is not remote work.
SALARY RANGE BASED ON 80-HOUR BI-WEEKLY WORK SCHEDULE: LEVEL II ($2,800 - $3,865); LEVEL III ($3,360 - $4,738) For more details, review the full job details and requirements below.The Data Analyst III plays a critical role in leveraging data to drive strategic initiatives and decision-making within the City. This job involves advanced data analysis, data system optimization, and guiding the data team on best practices and methodologies. The Data Analyst III works closely with cross0functional leaders to support data-driven decision making and ensure data accuracy, integrity, and actionable insights across all levels of the organization. Additionally, this role may also mentor junior analysts and contribute to the overall data strategy. The Data Analyst III is the top level in a three level career progression of Data Analyst I-III.
Key Responsibilities- Leads complex analyses, including predictive modeling, forecasting and statistical analysis to identify insights and inform business decisions; analyzes large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights to improve operations; creates and managers comprehensive reports to ensure data accuracy and relevance; develops high-level dashboards, reports, and data visualizations tailored for executive stakeholders, using advanced features and tools.
- Acts as a data expert within the organization, working with other departments to identify and meet data needs and drive process improvements; translates complex data findings into understandable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences; provides recommendations for action; leads and manages analytics projects from beginning to end; ensures that all objectives are met on time and within scope.
- Ensures accuracy, consistency and reliability of data; monitors data processes to promptly identify and resolve discrepancies or issues; conducts regular data validation and cleansing activities to maintain high data quality; contributes to the development and execution of data governance policies, ensuring data integrity, quality, and security.
- Collaborates with data engineering teams to optimize data pipelines, processes, and database structure to support efficient data management; recommends and implements improvements in data collection, storage and analysis techniques and applies them to departmental projects.
- Mentors and provides guidance to junior analysts; reviews their work and helps them grow their technical skills.
QualificationsExperience: A minimum of five years of experience in the area of focus is required. Strong skills writing, running and working with complex queries and optimizing database performance as as proficiency with more advanced reports and supporting technology and for the industry is required. Experience with cloud data platforms is required. Experience with advanced data analysis is also required.
Education: A bachelor’s degree in a field related to the area of focus is required. A master's degree is preferred. Equivalent experience and/or certification can substitute for education.
Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required.
