Click here to learn more about the Behavioral Health Services Division . THE POSITION The Mental Health Medical Director provides psychiatric, medical, and administrative oversight to the Behavioral Health Division which includes Mental Health and Substance Use services.
Duties will include direct supervision of psychiatrists, mid-level practitioners, nurses and other staff as assigned as well as program development and practice improvement. Oversight of medication supplies, supply ordering and liaising with local Pharmacies may be required as well. This position will provide quality assurance oversight incompliance with federal and state law, as well as community standards of practice, and represent the Division in psychiatrically related matters, including managed care issues with contracted hospitals, utilization management, scheduling structure for psychiatric staff, urgent appointment response systems, and overall policy and protocol to ensure that patients are being served timely and with the appropriate level of service.
In the absence of subordinates, this position will see clients or provide medication prescription renewals based on reasonable medical risk management practice. This position will work with the Behavioral Health Director or designee to recruit and retain physicians, mid-level practitioners and other staff as needed. The position will also provide overall education and cross-training on topics related to mental health, addiction and integrated physical health best practices in coordination with other Divisions, stakeholders, community groups and advocacy organizations to improve engagement and treatment outcomes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Considerable experience as a practicing psychiatrist in a community mental health environment
Education/Training:Medical Doctor degree from an accredited college or university with completion of a residency in Psychiatry.

- Possession of a valid Physicians and Surgeons License issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance and written evidence of successful completion of a psychiatry residency.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid class C California driver's license may be required.
