ABOUT THE POSITION
This recruitment is to fill (2) two vacant Building Maintenance Worker II Positions.
The Building Maintenance division is responsible for more than 50 County owned facilities including libraries, fire stations, Sheriff stations, flood control pump stations, office buildings, and two lock-down facilities. The Building Maintenance Worker II is responsible for performing a variety of routine duties in the maintenance and repair of these buildings, equipment and utility systems and the duties assigned may include, but are not limited to, replacing fluorescent and incandescent lamps, cleaning lighting fixtures and reflectors, cleaning air diffusers, moving and relocating office furniture and equipment, performing minor tasks in carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing work. The Building Maintenance Worker II will assist higher level Building Maintenance Workers on assigned projects as needed.
ABOUT YOU
Our ideal candidate brings hands-on experience maintaining and repairing large-scale institutional or commercial facilities, such as office buildings, libraries, fire stations, detention centers, or similar environments. Candidates should demonstrate practical skills across multiple trades—including basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical work—with the ability to perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing lighting, servicing air diffusers, and moving office furniture and equipment.
This position requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to support the ongoing needs of County operations.
Unlike construction or home remodeling, this role focuses on the ongoing upkeep, safety, and operational readiness of County-owned facilities. The successful candidate will be adaptable, dependable, and capable of working independently or as part of a team, assisting higher-level Building Maintenance Workers on larger or more complex projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE OF:- Methods, tools, and materials of various building trades.
- Codes pertinent to the repair of buildings, building facilities, and related equipment.
ABILITY TO:- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Skillfully use hand and power tools of a variety of building trades.
- To learn quickly new methods or techniques of maintenance and repair work.
- Perform heavy physical labor.
Equivalent to two years of recent full-time experience in building maintenance work or in appropriate trades or crafts which demonstrates possession of the following knowledge and ability requirements.
