The Position Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
Under immediate supervision, incumbents function in a trainee capacity and learn to perform duties described in the series concept.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Developmental Specialist 1 underfilling a Developmental Specialist 3 located in Las Vegas, Nevada. This Developmental Specialist position is located within Latency Age Day Treatment with the Division of Child and Family Services. The Developmental Specialist serves as the Day Treatment Coordinator and lead for the Latency Age Day Treatment program, an intensive rehabilitation program for youth ages seven through eleven with severe emotional disturbances who require a higher level of intervention to support their social and emotional development. The coordinator oversees the daily curriculum and program implementation for their specific site and services as the clinical lead within that treatment setting. They address the social and emotional needs of the youth by utilizing conflict and behavioral management techniques, considering the safety and feelings of all. The coordinator directly supervises the Child Care Worker and Public Service Interns assigned to the site. The coordinator manages the outside needs of the program including participation in the Child and Family team who is working with the youth and their family. They are responsible for developing treatment rehabilitation plans with appropriate goals and measurable objectives, under the supervision of their clinical supervisor and in conjunction with the team. When needed, the Coordinator will assist the Day Treatment Supervisor in program outreach and program development and design. This is a full-time position with a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field. Special Requirements Some positions must obtain an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education issued by the Nevada Department of Education or a comparable certification issued by the Nevada Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C office within three years of appointment to this series or a comparable certification. (This license requirement applies only to those positions directly involved with children from birth to eight years of age with developmental delays.) Some positions must meet federal guidelines for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional designation at the time of appointment. Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
