OverviewLarimer County is seeking an experienced Professional Engineer to lead our Engineering Department. This is an exciting opportunity to guide the planning, design, and construction of vital infrastructure, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, and more, that serve our region and growing community.
In this leadership role, you’ll oversee a talented team of engineers and support staff, manage multimillion-dollar projects, and collaborate closely with County leadership, partner agencies, and the community. The ideal candidate possesses both technical expertise and proven leadership skills, with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and public service.

ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:
- Leading and mentoring a team of engineers and support staff to deliver high-quality public works projects
- Overseeing planning, design, and construction of County roads, bridges, and infrastructure improvements
- Managing budgets, resources, and contracts to keep projects on track and within scope
- Implementing policies and strategic goals that align with County priorities and ensure compliance with regulations
- Representing the County in meetings with the Board of Commissioners, partner agencies, and the community
- Providing technical guidance on engineering projects and reviewing plans to ensure quality and safety

- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado
- Solid background in civil engineering (transportation, drainage, flood control, and environmental management)
- Strong project management skills, including budget oversight and contract administration
- Proven leadership experience - supervising teams and collaborating across departments
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, community members, and partner agencies

- Twelve (12) years of experience in the performance and administration of Civil Engineering activities, including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience required.
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education, from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field required.
- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of Colorado required.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
