    EC Inspector II - $55.00 - $66.86 Hourly

    $114,408.53 - $139,064.22 Annually

    EC Inspector III - $61.05 - $74.21 Hourly

    $126,993.57 - $154,361.38 Annually

    Are you passionate about environmental protection and public service? We are seeking a skilled and dedicated journey-level Environmental Compliance Inspector II/III to join our team at Union Sanitary District where we work every day to protect water quality and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

    Examples of Duties

    In this role, you’ll conduct field inspections, issue permits, investigate pollution sources, and enforce environmental standards at commercial and industrial facilities. You’ll serve as a knowledgeable and professional representative of the District - helping reduce pollution at the source and safeguard our wastewater system.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Inspect industrial and commercial facilities for compliance with pretreatment, stormwater, and pollution prevention regulations
    • Interpreting and explaining rules and regulations
    • Issue wastewater discharge permits and review compliance documentation
    • Collect samples and evaluate discharge data
    • Investigate and respond to illegal discharges or violations
    • Prepare detailed reports and participate in enforcement actions
    • Represent the District in meetings with businesses, regulators, and the public
    • As an EC Inspector III, mentor and train junior inspectors

    Qualifications

    Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    Inspector II: Two years of college with a major in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or related field, plus one year of relevant experience.

    Inspector III: Two years of college with a major in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or related field, plus two years of relevant experience, preferably in wastewater or industrial pretreatment.

    Both positions require:
    • Technical & Interpersonal Skills: You’re a communicator who can bridge technical expertise with a people-centered approach, bringing a strong foundation in chemistry and environmental compliance.
    • Experience in pollution prevention (fats, oils, and grease (FOG), dental and stormwater inspection).
    • Licensing: A valid Class C California driver’s license and a clean driving record.
    • Strong knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
    • Experience collecting and analyzing water or wastewater samples.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


    Additional Requirements:
    • For the EC Inspector II - CWEA Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector Certificate (or ability to obtain within 24 months)
    • For the EC Inspector III - CWEA Grade II Environmental Compliance Inspector Certificate (or ability to obtain within 24 months)
