Provides training in the maintenance and repair of facilities and other related equipment.

Examples of Duties

• Conducts classroom and individualized training on multi-craft Facilities Maintenance, including electrical and electronic systems, mechanical systems, equipment, signage, bus and rail service support, and building and grounds property maintenance
• Prepares lesson plans, schedules, training materials, and testing performance exams
• Provides hands-on demonstration in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment
• Operates shop and field tools and equipment related to facilities maintenance for demonstration purposes
• Conducts High Rail certification and recertification training
• Conducts NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) training relative to Los Angeles City Regulation Number 4 (Reg4) requirements
• Provides or coordinates specialized training on equipment, such as forklifts, cranes, and washers
• Communicates to all levels of staff the safety and operational rules, procedures, and code requirements for electrical, mechanical, masonry, aerial lift use, and tool and equipment use
• Coordinates specialized and developmental training needs with division heads and other management
• Travels to various work locations to provide training and/or technical support to facilities maintenance personnel
• Interviews and tests applicants
• Keeps abreast with current electrical and mechanical technology by attending vendor training session Provides orientation to personnel on lighting maintenance
• Keeps abreast of Federal, state, and local electrical codes
• Coordinates with General Services on custodial requirements and procedures
• Reviews, updates, and distributes new manuals and training materials
• Trains experienced staff on new rules and procedures, and code requirement updates
• Provides orientation to personnel on new equipment and systems
• Analyzes vendor training materials
• Prepares reports and correspondence
• Reviews and participates in facilities and equipment-related accident investigations
• Serves as technical expert for troubleshooting electrical and mechanical maintenance problems
• Provides advice on technical issues to other department personnel
• Analyzes situations, identifies problems, and recommends solutions
• Establishes safety guidelines on maintenance procedures
• Develops and assesses safety programs

May be required to perform other related job duties

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education

• Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent training from a recognized college or trade school

Experience

• Three years of relevant experience performing work or training in the repair or maintenance of facilities operations

Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements

• Exposure to electrical, mechanical, chemical, and physical hazards
• Must obtain Rail Safety and Wayside Worker Protection Safety Certificate
• Valid California Class C Driver License
• Obtain a California Class "A" driver license during probationary period
• Must be able to obtain a valid California Class A Commercial Driver License in order to operate emergency response (Hi-Rail) equipment
• Must be able to work different shifts to respond to facilities training needs and emergencies
• Must comply with all California Occupational Safety & Health Act (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and protective gear "including but not limited" to respirators and/or hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
• Must have normal color vision
• Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations

• Theories, principles, and practices of repair and electrical and mechanical components and systems related to facilities maintenance
• Mechanical and electrical design, construction, installation, maintenance practices, procedures, methods, and equipment found in a manufacturing or maintenance facility environment
• Federal, state, and local electrical codes
• Safe electrical procedures
• Safe and proper use of tools and other equipment
• Read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics
• Applicable safety, environmental, and vehicle laws, rules, regulations and procedures, including NFPA 70E, NFPA 70 and OSHA
• Development of curricula, learning objectives, lesson plans, and assessment techniques
• Methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures utilized in custodial work
• Applicable business software applications
• Forklift and other heavy machinery safe operation and usage

• Planning, organizing, and monitoring the training of skilled personnel in maintenance and repair of equipment and related systems

• Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
• Technical problem solving and technical research
