    JOB SUMMARY
    The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing intermediate level accounting functions in the reporting of activities such as fixed assets, financial transaction posting, and financial reporting.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    General Accounting:
    • Prepares, Records, verifies, and reconciles intricate financial transactions and events in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
    • Analyzes and summarizes financial transactions to ensure integrity of data in the general ledger.
    • Reconcile complex general ledger accounts to the sub-ledger and financial reports, including researching and resolving variances, discrepancies, and errors.
    • Monitors and evaluates organizational activities that directly impact financial functions.
    • Maintains the financial reporting structures of the accounting system.
    • Compiles and interprets financial data for internal and external users.
    • Reviews and recommends modifications to the accounting system.
    • Performs validation and testing procedures for all financial system upgrades and enhancements.
    • Develops, recommends and implements departmental policies and procedures to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
    • Supports internal and external audit process by preparing documentation and providing necessary information and support.
    • Collaborates with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure effective execution of tasks and initiatives.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Asset Management:
    • Maintains Fixed Asset Records including accurately recording additions, adjustments, transfers, and retirements for all fixed assets, ensuring accurate classification and valuation of assets.
    • Accurately calculates and records depreciation expense for all fixed assets in accordance with Generally Accepted Account Principles (GAAP).
    • Performs reconciliation of the Fixed Asset Sub-Ledger to the General Ledger to ensure accuracy and compliance with all company policies and procedures.
    • Prepares various fixed asset reports, including Roll Forward, Depreciation Schedules, Assets listings and others as requested for management review and audit purposes.
    • Supports internal departments by reviewing, analyzing, and providing guidance on proper accounting treatment to ensure compliance with all capital expenditure policies and procedures are followed.

    DECISION MAKING
    • This position receives limited supervision.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
    • Five years’ experience performing professional level accounting.
    • Two years’ financial reporting experience.
    • Proficient in the use of automated accounting systems.
    • Proficient PC skills in financial, word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software.
    • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant or Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Accounting.
    • Experience with relational database concepts.
    • Experience in governmental accounting.
    JOB DIMENSIONS
    • Contact with internal and external customers and governmental agencies.
    • Responsible for ensuring the proper recording of financial transactions of a consolidated entity with $867 million in annual revenues, $10 billion in assets, and an annual construction budget in excess of $500 million.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
    Subject to sitting for long periods of time to perform job scope. Requires visual acuity, speech and hearing. Working conditions are in an office environment.

    May be required to work hours other than regular schedule such as nights and weekends.
