    Position Information

    The Information Systems Department (ISD) is seeking a technical troubleshooting expert to join their team as an Information Technology Analyst II.

    Starting salary up to $58.96 /hour ( $123,056 /year) plus a competitive total compensation package!*

    The Position

    The Sonoma County Information Systems Department (ISD) is seeking an Information Technology Analyst II (ITA II) to join our Public Safety Central Support Team in the Technical Services Division. This group works closely with the Sonoma County Public Safety Consortium, Network Services, and Data Center Operations Teams. The specific duties for this position can vary from assignment to assignment, and requires a high level of technical, problem solving, and communication skills to effectively support a diverse public safety user community.

    The Information Analyst II (ITA II) will support mission-critical applications that directly impact the safety of Sonoma County citizens. The ITA II will be answering, resolving, and escalating service desk requests and work orders. This role troubleshoots and triages technical issues via phone, email, chat in person and remotely. The ITA II will perform public safety system tasks, such as resetting user accounts, troubleshooting application issues, PC hardware issues, and occasionally perform onsite visits to various agencies to replace hardware. This position exercises a high level of independence and knows when to escalate technical issues to subject matter experts on the team and when to report to the manager for any critical decisions.

    Required Technical Skills
    • Hardware & Software Support: Installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of desktops, laptops, peripherals, and mobile devices
    • Remote & On-Site Diagnostics: Proficient in resolving hardware/software issues across multiple locations, including public safety environments
    • Service Desk Operations: Handling and escalating support requests related to CAD, RMS, mobile computing, and public safety web applications
    • Scripting & Programming: Familiarity with PowerShell, command-line tools, HTML, JavaScript, and SQL for automation and troubleshooting
    • Database Literacy: Understanding of relational databases, Microsoft SQL Server, and reporting tools like SSRS and Crystal Reports
    • GIS Support: Experience with GIS data maintenance, map deployments, and user acceptance testing
    • Security Awareness: Basic knowledge of network, firewall, and security principles; supports secure system access and data protection
    • Vendor Coordination: Ability to manage vendor relationships and escalate issues effectively

They will have strong written and verbal communication skills that will be used to interact with end users. They demonstrate excellent customer service skills by using active listening, responding with empathy, and striving to resolve issues efficiently and professionally. The ideal candidate will have a genuine commitment to public safety and a deep appreciation for the critical work we support, and many of the following:
    • Experience with Azure cloud training
    • Experience adhering to FBI and California Department of Justice (DOJ) policies, procedures, and using systems such as CJIS and CLETS
    • Knowledge of Virtual machine (VM) technology, VMWare and vSphere
    • CAD, RMS, Mobile computing & Public Safety application knowledge and/or experience
    • Familiarity with PowerShell, HTML, JavaScript and SQL programming
    • An understanding of relational databases, Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS and Crystal Reports
    • Experience with GIS data maintenance and mapping deployment
    • Knowledge of network, firewalls, and security principles

    Additional Security Clearance: This position may be required to have access to Sheriff’s Office or Probation Department facilities or view data or work with information systems for these departments. This requires a more extensive “Security Clearance” by the Sheriff’s office after hire. Successful completion of the probationary period will be contingent upon passing the security clearance, which includes a Live Scan fingerprint-based check of the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) criminal records.     Minimum Qualifications

    Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed.

    Education: Any combination of education and training which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, academic coursework and/or formal training in computer science, information systems, network systems or a closely related field would provide this opportunity.

    Information Technology Analyst I Normally one year of experience in computer systems support, desktop/user support, technical support, or networking support would provide this opportunity.

    Information Technology Analyst II--normally, two years of technical professional experience involving technical support, systems or operations analysis, or similar field in a multi-platform information technology environment or one year of experience as an Information Technology Analyst I with the County of Sonoma. Specific experience related to the work of the assigned division may be required.

    Additional, highly relevant professional level experience may be substituted for the required education at either level.

    License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position. Certification in networking technology or other specialized area related to area of assignment is desirable for some assignments.

    The position advertised on this announcement does require possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Working knowledge and understanding of: software packages and operating systems commonly used on personal computers and networked systems including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, file recovery, backup, and other utilities; principles and practices of software and hardware installation and repair; computer operations, including operating systems and software products; local and wide area network installation, management, security, and operation; methods and techniques of troubleshooting hardware, software and inter-connectivity problems; principles and practices of training system users; principles and practices of assuring data security; methods and techniques of providing support to users.

    Ability to: Identify, analyze and define information technology needs, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; provide technical support in area of expertise; identify, troubleshoot, analyze and resolve customer/user problems; understand, interpret, and explain hardware and software application solutions to users; research technical materials to provide solutions to problems; write and modify instructions, procedures, manuals, documentation; understand and respond to problems related to data communications, networks and systems interconnectivity; work cooperatively and effectively with staff, customers, vendors, and the public; effectively listen and communicate information to persons with diverse knowledge and experience; perform a variety of tasks in a consistent and accurate manner; read, analyze and take corrective action or refer problems to appropriate staff in response to error messages, codes, and abends in the mainframe, network and personal computing platforms; prepare clear, concise and accurate oral and written reports.
