    Description

    To oversee the activities of the equipment maintenance instruction function in rail operations.

    Recruitment Timeline: Written Exams are projected to be scheduled for the week of October 20, 2025. Performance Exams are projected to be scheduled for the week ofOctober 27, 2025. Interviews are projected to be scheduled for the week of November 3, 2025. This schedule is subject to change.     Examples of Duties

    • Plans and coordinates training classes
    • Conducts training classes on all rail vehicles, shop equipment and Metro’s computerized maintenance management system software, as required
    • Develops, implements, and maintains training schedules
    • Evaluates and tests trainees
    • Ensures all training provided is documented on employees' personnel records and agency training data bases
    • Confers with management to determine training needs assessment for equipment maintenance personnel
    • Prepares comprehensive reports and correspondence
    • Reviews and edits training manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, maintenance manuals, and operating manuals, as required
    • Participates in the development of new training programs to ensure technological changes are incorporated into curriculum
    • Ensures mandated programs such as EPA and AQMD, or FRA and CPUC are implemented and employee training, certifications, or yearly permits are up-to-date
    • Attends out-of-the-area meetings as Metro’s representative
    • Stays current on new and evolving equipment and procedures and ensures subordinate staff is properly trained
    • Testifies as expert technical witness at selected trials and hearings
    • Reviews and oversees Equipment Manufacturer Training Programs or vendor provided training for use at divisions
    • Leads subordinate staff to achieve training goals and objectives
    • Accounts for subordinate and personal compliance with all of Metro’s safety rules, polices, and procedures
    • Complies with California General Order requirements as required by CPUC and other applicable laws and regulations
    • Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all of Metro’s safety rules, policies, and procedures


    May be required to perform other related job duties

    Minimum Qualifications

    A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

    Education
    • Associate's Degree in Electronic or Mechanical Engineering Technology or other related field

    Experience
    • Five years of relevant experience developing and conducting training in rail vehicle and equipment maintenance

    Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
    • Valid California Class A Driver License
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a commercial Driver License (Class A) in order to operate an emergency response (Hi-Rail) equipment
    • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
    • Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations


    Essential Knowledge

    Knowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)
    • Theories, principles, and practices of repair and maintenance of rail vehicle systems, components and related electrical systems
    • Applicable safety, environmental, local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing vehicle maintenance such as CPUC general orders
    • Principles of supervision

    Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
    • Planning, organizing, and administering equipment maintenance training programs
    • Operating computers and computer software and navigate computerized maintenance management system software
    • Preparing comprehensive reports and correspondence

    Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
    • Obtain and maintain a California Class "A" Driver License
    • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
    • Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions
    • Exercise judgment and creativity in making decisions

    • Plan financial and staffing needs
    • Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements
    • Compile and analyze complex data
    • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives

    • Read, write, speak, and understand English
