    FIRE (Fire Innovation Recruitment Education) Foundry: The FIRE Foundry is a career pathway program designed to support community members through career exploration in the fire service and strengthen competitiveness for future employment as firefighters or related careers in medicine, public safety and environmental conservation.     ABOUT THE POSITION

    The FIRE Foundry is seeking a dynamic group of interns for the Student Intern- FIRE Foundry positions. The positions will focus on education and outreach, volunteer events, surveying, mapping and more. The interns will work on a variety of projects with a collaboration of leadership.

    The position is temporary/part-time (hours vary per week depending on the various projects) beginning October 2025 through April 2026.

    Some duties and responsibilities include:
    • Working with leadership to plan and create education materials and/or community events.
    • Working with leadership to map and survey fire roads and other sites.


    ABOUT YOU

    We are looking for someone who has an interest working in the fire service and is a self-starter

    with a passion for educating and engaging with communities to enhance fire safety.

    In addition, the highly qualified candidate has:
    • Experience as a FIRE Foundry recruit and/or MCFD seasonal.
    • The ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Eagerness to gain knowledge and understanding of wildfire safety and defensible space.


    This job class requires travel between various County and business-related locations. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County, including review of a recent DMV history. Use of a personal vehicle is required. Incumbent will be reimbursed for mileage at the standard IRS rate for 2025.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Applicants must be:
    • Enrolled at a college or university, or vocational curriculum or within one year of having graduated, or
    • A participant in a supervised program to meet licensure requirements of the State of California.


    Additional minimum qualifications may apply depending upon the internship.
