    Job Announcement
    The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Street Maintenance Technician - CDL or a Street Maintenance Senior Technician - CDL. These are regular full-time positions with benefits, scheduled for 4/10 workweeks, Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, depending on the assignment. Summer hours are from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and winter hours are from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

    Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

    Who we are
    The Public Works Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's capital projects, streets and traffic operations. The Public Works team oversees the planning, design, installation, maintenance and operation of all signs, pavement marking's, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems and roadway lighting for all City Streets. This includes 238 signalized intersections, 800 traffic cameras, 29,000 streetlights, 22,000 regulatory and warning signs and 275 miles of roadway striping. Maintenance of over 2,090 lane miles of streets and 130 miles of alley's requiring asphalt patching, repair and replacement of curbs and gutters, sidewalk repair, debris removal and maintenance of landscaping in the City's right of ways. We also oversee the acquisition of professional services, design, construction and construction management for transportation, utilities, community services and other general government improvements.

We are looking for someone to perform skilled maintenance and repair of city streets, right of way, alleys, medians, storm drain systems, retention basins and other related concrete features in compliance with applicable regulations and specifications, as we as responding to hazards.

    Street Maintenance Technician - CDL $24.69 to $33.32/hr DOE
    Minimum qualifications
    • A High School Diploma or GED; and
    • 1 year of experience as a Street Maintenance Worker or 2 years of experience in street maintenance or civil construction; and
    • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement, with acceptable driving record, or obtain CDL with tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire or promotion; and
    • Maricopa County Dust Control Certification within 1 year of hire or promotion; and
    • 40 hours of HAZWOPER Certification within 1 year of hire or promotion; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    Street Maintenance Senior Technician - CDL $28.26 to $38.16/hr DOE
    Minimum qualifications
    • A High School Diploma or GED; and
    • 2 years of experience as a City of Chandler Street Maintenance Technician - CDL or 3 years of experience in street maintenance or civil construction, including the use and operation of construction and heavy equipment; and
    • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement and acceptable driving record; and
    • Obtain and maintain a Maricopa County Dust Control Certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion; and
    • Obtain and maintain a 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    When assigned to Right of Way or Stormwater: Must obtain and maintain an Arizona Pesticide Applicators License within six (6) months of hire or promotion.

    Each position is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

    The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol test and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

    Applicants for employment and volunteer opportunities should be aware of the City of Chandler’s policies concerning the use of drugs and alcohol. These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the city’s Drug Free Workplace Policy. Certain positions within the city are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
