    City Manager

    City of Redding, CA

Join a vibrant, growing community as City Manager of the City of Redding, the economic and cultural hub of Northern California's Shasta Cascade region. Situated along the Sacramento River with a population of over 95,000, Redding spans 60.7 square miles and offers stunning natural beauty, affordable housing, excellent schools, miles of trails and endless outdoor adventures—from the Sacramento River Trail to Shasta Lake and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Just 162 miles north of Sacramento, with easy access via I-5, Amtrak, and Redding Regional Airport. Discover more about Redding at www.cityofredding.org and www.visitredding.com.

Redding operates under a Council-Manager form of government, with five Council Members and an annually appointed Mayor. With approximately 950 full-time and 300 part-time employees, Redding delivers a wide range of services, including public safety, utilities, public works development services, transportation and recreation. The biennial 2025-2027 Budget supports sustainable growth and community priorities.

The City is seeking a visionary leader with 10+ years of senior municipal experience (population 50,000+ or equivalent), strong in financial management, economic development, public works, and utility operations—ideally with California local government or municipal electrical utility familiarity. The ideal candidate is collaborative, innovative, and community-engaged, mentoring staff while advancing Council priorities including sustainable budgeting and financial management, infrastructure modernization and shepherding large scale community and economic development projects such as the Stillwater Business Park and Riverfront Specific Plan. A Bachelor's degree in public/business administration or related field is typical.

The annual salary range for the City Manager position is up to a maximum of $336,348.00. The starting salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience and is not expected to begin at the maximum level. Comprehensive benefits include CalPERS retirement (2% at 55 Classic/62 PEPRA), 80% paid medical/dental/vision, up to 80 hours admin leave, vacation/sick/holidays, deferred comp, and possible relocation assistance.
