    Role

    This is a part-time position approximately 20 hours per week. Previous postal/shipping experience is preferred.

    Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks to support the daily operations of the mailroom. Provides assistance and support to county employees, elected officials and county constituents (public).

    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Pick up mail from USPS and various county locations; sort and deliver interoffice and incoming USPS/UPS/Fed Ex mail and packages and safely drive a fully loaded cargo van
    • Operate a postage meter, computer system and all related equipment to process mail/packages for delivery by outside shipping entities. Process mail with accurate department codes; prepare postal forms and reports, and prepare mail for delivery/pick up to USPS, UPS, and/or FedEx
    • Problem solve shipping related questions and concerns.
    • Process daily financial reports, provide data entry and monitor postage funds.
    • Determines the best method of mailing.
    • Operate a folding/inserter and an industrial paper shredder as needed.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience:
    A minimum of six (6) months of progressively responsible general office experience, to include mail route or sorting experience.

    Additional Requirements:
    Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:
    • Data entry and filing procedures.
    • Basic bookkeeping principles, practices, and procedures.
    • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
    • Clerical office practices and procedures.
    • Current Microsoft Office software.

    Skill in:
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
    • Organization and adherence to detail.

    Ability to:
    • Develop and maintain knowledge of postal and shipping policies, practices and procedures.
    • Perform mail services technician duties of moderate complexity in accordance with standard procedures.
    • Carry out assigned responsibilities with 98% accuracy, and within the prescribed time frame.
    • Assist others within the mailroom as needed.
    • Provide helpful and accurate assistance to other departments.
    • Keep supervisor informed of key operating issues affecting the mailroom.
    • Pass fingerprint and background checks and sign a confidentiality agreement.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
    • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
    • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
    • Work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, and the general public.
    • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

    Work Environment:
    The work environment is associated with a warehouse, mailroom, various office settings, outdoor elements and delivery vans.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effectively in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
