(Job #550418) Instructional Support Assistant II, Gallery Assistant, Salary Range: $3,746 - 5,881 month (full-time equivalent)
Anticipated Hiring Range: $21.61 - 23.00 per hour. Part time, anticipating 10 hours per week. This is a temporary, intermittent hourly, non-benefitted, non-exempt, 12-month pay plan position in the Art Department.
Position Summary: Under general supervision from the Dean (or designated MPP administrator) and day-to-day lead direction from the Art Department Gallery Director and the Department Chair for Art + Film, the incumbent performs support services for the daily operations of the gallery lab and assists with exhibition setup, maintenance of materials and supplies, and student support activities related to gallery operations.
Key Responsibilities: Managing Gallery Studio/Shop Lab Facility Operations - Hang and arrange art for exhibition
- Make labels and corresponding text blocks for art on exhibit
- Maintain inventory and storage areas for all tools, supplies and equipment in the facility and assist in procuring supplies necessary for exhibit production.
Student Staff and Gallery/Museum Operations Support - Training and monitor student assistants and gallery sitters and help to maintain a clean safe work environment for students and visitors; provide instructional support for students engaged in gallery/museum activities
Maintain electronic and paper database of art in the gallery collection - Complete gallery forms
- Assist in maintaining gallery exhibition records
- Compose basic correspondence to communicate with media, artists and lenders.
Other Duties as Assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include: - Knowledge of the procedures and practices relating to providing support services
- Knowledge of procedures and practices related to ordering, issue, and inventory
- Ability to learn quickly the names, uses and care of common types of materials, supplies, and equipment used in the instructional program to which assigned
- Ability to plan, organize, and follow a schedule of activities
- Ability to learn to operate equipment and to make adjustments
- Ability to maintain records and project needs
- Ability to correct and perform simple arithmetic calculations
- Ability to read and write at a level suitable for performance on the job
- Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population
- Ability to follow all Art Department gallery & museum guidelines, policies and gallery & museum studies faculty/staff direction in performing related tasks
- Ability to inspect materials, supplies, and equipment to determine their suitability for various uses
Minimum Qualifications: Experience: Equivalent to one year of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing or storing materials, supplies, and equipment.

Equivalent to one year of experience in ordering, purchasing, accounting or in office work related to technical materials, supplies, or equipment or in an office which provided similar services to a technical function or unit may be substituted for six months of the experience.
or
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline in the specialty area to which assigned.
Preferred Qualifications: Possession of Museum & Gallery Practices Certificate, or equivalent, and some experience using Collection Management software. Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive studies in museum & gallery practices, studio art procedures and art history.
