Position OverviewThe City of Henderson is looking to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Director in the City's Department of Building and Fire Safety/Development Services Center.
Under general direction, provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for the Department of Building and Fire Safety/Development Services Center, assuring compliance in all construction in the City with federal, state, and local electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and general building and fire codes as well as directing the activities of the Development Services Center; and performs related duties as assigned.

Note: Pursuant to the Henderson City Charter, this is an unclassified position not covered by the City of Henderson Civil Service Rules. This means that the incumbent's employment is at-will, and may be terminated with or without cause or notice, at any time by the incumbent or the City. Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Construction Administration, Architecture, or a closely related field
- Ten (10) years of full-time progressively responsible experience in residential and commercial inspection, plan review, engineering, architecture, construction, municipal or county land development, and/or permitting, five (5) years of which were at a managerial level
- Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
- Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483
- Must obtain and maintain certification as a Building Official from the International Code Council (ICC) within twelve (12) months from the date of hire and as a condition of continued employment
- Must possess valid registration as one of the following:
- Professional Engineer (PE) in a related discipline
- Professional Architect in a related discipline
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Architect in the state of Nevada within twelve (12) months from the date of hire and as a condition of continued employment
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
- Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
- Desirable: Master’s Degree in a closely related field
