    The Position

The Contra Costa County Health Services Department WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program is offering an excellent employment opportunity for qualified individuals interested in the position of Senior Public Health Nutritionist. The WIC Program within the Public Health Division currently has one (1) vacancy at the Brentwood WIC Site located in Brentwood, CA. You may occasionally be required to travel to various locations in Contra Costa County.

    The Women, Infants, and Children’s (WIC) Program serves pregnant women, women who have recently been pregnant, infants, children up to their fifth birthday. WIC's mission is to provide all women, infants, and children healthy food, and the knowledge and opportunity to make healthy choices in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, thus enhancing the potential for all Californians to enjoy a higher quality of life.

    What you will typically be responsible for:
    • Providing nutrition oversight to WIC staff
    • Identifying nutritional needs of the WIC population
    • Screening, interviewing, and consulting with high-risk clients
    • Reviewing, processing, and documenting therapeutic formula prescriptions per state and federal guidelines -risk WIC participants
    • Providing nutrition education & counseling to pregnant & breastfeeding/postpartum women, parents of children ages birth to five years
    • Assisting in policy planning, implementation, and evaluation
    • Participating in special projects, community partner networking, and outreach
    • Providing training, in-services and workshops for WIC staff

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.

    Registration Required: Current Certificate of Registration as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

    Experience: Two (2) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience performing community based nutrition work.

    Substitution for Experience: Possession of a master's degree in nutrition, public health nutrition, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

    • Effective Educator: Proven ability to communicate complex nutrition & health information clearly & effectively to both clients and staff
    • Skilled Mentor & Leader: Experience mentoring & coaching staff, with the ability to foster professional growth, support staff development, & build a positive, team-oriented work environment
    • Experienced Trainer: Background in designing and delivering staff trainings & presentations
      Knowledge of Program Policies & Quality Assurance: Familiarity with WIC program policies & procedures


    Selection Process

    1. Application Filing and Evaluation: All applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

    2. Training and Experience Evaluation: At the time of filing, within the supplemental questionnaire, candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire. Candidates that clearly meet the minimum qualifications, as described above, will have their training and experience responses evaluated. The training and experience questionnaire is designed to measure candidate’s relevant education, training, and/or experience as it relates to this classification. (Weighted 100%).
