The Position Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, or they coordinate and provide statewide health-related training programs.
The Department of Corrections is seeking to fill a Correctional Nurse 3 located in Las Vegas. This position is responsible for performing advanced clinical duties, including conducting physical assessments, developing and implementing care plans, and managing both chronic and acute health conditions. The nurse will administer medications, monitor treatment responses, and provide emergency interventions when necessary. Working collaboratively with physicians, mental health professionals, and correctional officers, the Correctional Nurse 3 ensures continuity of care while adhering to safety, security, and infection control protocols. Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) License as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience. Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
