Major Duties Under general supervision, the Plumber role involves comprehensive plumbing tasks, including installations, emergency responses, and system maintenance across campus facilities. You will perform routine and complex repairs, ensuring functionality and safety of various plumbing systems, while also contributing to remodel and installation projects. Your ability to respond promptly and effectively in emergencies and your commitment to preventive maintenance will significantly impact campus operations.
- Performs repairs/replacement of disposals, faucets, sinks, auxiliary accessories, washroom, lavatory, and shower equipment.
- Apprise supervisor of building utility system conditions; orders and installs replacement components vital to service and maintenance requirements; responds appropriately to emergencies; assures safety regulations and codes are met.
- Drives carts and other motor vehicles across campus, multiple times per day, in performance of duties.
- Makes necessary repairs to domestic water supply systems, sewers, gas service and utility equipment, water closets and related devices; campus pool equipment, pumps, sprinklers, fire protection systems, and all related piping systems.
- Works on remodeling and installation of plumbing systems; makes rough sketches of installations; reads and interprets blueprints and specifications; estimates material and labor costs for standard work.
- Cleans, repairs/replaces sewer and domestic waste piping systems; maintains sanitary sewer needs. Performs major/minor project work in coordination with other trades to include other tasks, e.g., welding/soldering, etc.
- Services and maintains the preventive maintenance program; prepares reports and performs calculations appropriate to the level of the position; may be required to retrieve information from computerized systems; maintains and operates vehicles and plumbing-related equipment; instructs unskilled assistants on assignments; assists with shop maintenance and health requirements.

Qualifications - Progressively responsible training and experience that demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through completion of a standard plumber's apprenticeship program.
- LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE.
- Experience as a journeyman plumber strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities - Demonstrated skill in performing plumbing repairs and replacements, including disposals, faucets, sinks, auxiliary accessories, and various washroom and shower equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate system conditions to supervisors, swiftly order and install replacement parts, and respond appropriately to emergencies while consistently adhering to safety regulations and codes.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques for domestic water supply, sewer systems, gas service, campus pool equipment, sprinklers, and fire protection systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, prepare rough sketches, accurately estimate material and labor costs, and coordinate plumbing projects effectively with other trades.

- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5998 - $6754 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5998 - $8737 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
- The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
