    Overview

    One Agency. One Mission. Public Safety.

    The Larimer County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) is seeking community-minded volunteers to help build strong partnerships between law enforcement and the public, with the shared goal of enhancing safety and reducing crime across Larimer County’s homes, schools, offices, and neighborhoods. CPU volunteers serve as trained liaisons who educate the community on crime prevention strategies, promote public awareness, and support the Sheriff's Office at outreach events and through administrative roles. Volunteers play a vital role in strengthening trust and collaboration between the public and the LCSO.

    Key Focus Areas:
    • Crime Prevention - Includes training neighborhoods on topics like Neighborhood Watch, ID Theft, and Teen Dating Violence.
    • Community Engagement - Includes representing LCSO at public events such as the Larimer County Fair, National Night Out, and other local outreach efforts.
    • Administrative Support - May include assisting with the Citizens Academy, the Joint Information Center during emergencies, and the annual Sheriff-sponsored holiday party for at-risk children.

    Responsibilities

    The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the job. The organization retains the right to modify or change the duties and responsibilities of the job at any time.
    • Acts as a liaison between community members and the Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) to educate civilians regarding what actions they can take to protect themselves from becoming a victim of crime and what role they play in partnering with law enforcement.
    • Represents the Larimer County Sheriff's Office in a positive and professional manner when interacting with the community.
    • Each team member is required to be trained and participate in the events listed under Crime Prevention below.

    Crime Prevention Functions
    • Public Relations attendance at special events.
    • Trains county neighborhoods in developing Neighborhood Watch programs.
    • Operates the education and awareness booth at the Larimer County Fair, kids' safety events, and other community events.
    • Presents at National Night Out events in August of each year.
    • Participates in the organization of the Sheriff sponsored Christmas party for at-risk children.
    • Provides Citizens Academy support.

    Qualifications

    • Be at least 21 years of age.
    • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
    • Possess (or be able to obtain) a valid driver’s license by start date.
    • Have reliable transportation and appropriate vehicle insurance.
    • Demonstrate a passion for empowering citizens to protect themselves and their communities.
    • Work well in a team environment-it takes a village to be successful.

    Program Requirements
    • Commit to one full year of volunteer service.
    • Participate in required training and scheduled CPU activities.
    • Complete an 8-hour initial ride-along and one additional ride-along per quarter.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary for the role.

    Team members function as members of a non-commissioned volunteer force within the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Members shall be responsible to and under the direct supervision of the Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) CPU Unit Coordinator. All members must abide by the rules and regulations of the LCSO and Crime Prevention Unit. Assignments for team members will come through the Unit Coordinator.

    The Sheriff’s Office prohibits possession of marijuana by employees under any circumstances and expects employees to comply with federal law.

    Applicants must meet all of the following:
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
    • Cannot have a felony conviction
    • No convictions involving domestic violence
    • No use of illegal drugs within the past five years
