    BeautifySJ

    The BeautifySJ is a blight reduction, neighborhood beautification, and encampment management program within the Community Services Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department. BeautifySJ Programs include the Graffiti Removal Program, Illegal Dumping Program, Neighborhood Dumpster Day Program, Neighborhood Litter Program, Recreational Vehicle Pollution Prevention Program, Encampment Trash Removal Program, Encampment Abatement Program, Clean Gateways, and Cash for Trash Program.

    Encampment Management

    The Encampment Management teams assist with activities including noticing encampments, referrals to partner departments for outreach, providing education on encampment setback areas. The position will include daily engagement with those residing in homeless encampments.

    Neighborhood Engagement

    The Neighborhood Engagement team supports neighborhood associations and fosters collaboration on improving quality of life within San Jose communities. The position will connect residents with City services and resources, promoting the creation of neighborhood associations, and encouraging community engagement and include daily engagement with community members .

    Blight Reduction Strategy

    The BeautifySJ program has integrated graffiti abatement, illegal dumping response (RAPID), neighborhood engagement, and litter removal efforts to enhance public spaces and empower community involvement. This position will focus on blight reduction and neighborhood engagement through these integrated efforts.

    RISE Engagement

    The Reintegrating Individuals for Success and Empowerment (RISE) aims to reach gang-affiliated unhoused people that want help to change their situation and connect them to relevant resources. The program focuses on gang-affiliated residents of encampments that are impacted by gang activity. This position will receive referrals from in-house programs and word-of-mouth from participants and refer them to programs to address those needs .

    Position Duties

    The Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1 ) full-time Community Coordinator vacanc y in the Community Services Division.

    Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    - Identifies , evaluates, and analyzes the needs of a targeted community/program area.
    - Working in homeless encampments to provide encampment management services to vulnerable populations.

    -Working with communities through outreach methods such as door knocking, tabling, and other outreach efforts
    - Supervises employees through training, assigning, and monitoring work.
    - Recommends employment, retention, promotion, and demotion, and completes performance evaluations.
    - Coordinates agencies and service provider program activities, keeping them informed and actively involved in program formulation.
    - Monitors project budgets and assumes responsibility for setting priorities to meet the needs of the intended area.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Two (2) years of course work at an accredited college or university, including courses in social science

    Experience: Three (3) years of experience in work concerned with the improvement of inter-group relations, delinquency or homeless prevention, public health, youth or social development, or involvement in blight reduction or community safety programs.

    Acceptable Substitutions: Additional related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

    Certifications: Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California.

    Other Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

    Knowledge of the availability of social services from State, local and Federal agencies as they pertain to working in neighborhoods, homeless encampments, or school settings

    The current Community Coordinator position is with the BeautifySJ Program and will include delivering services to homeless populations in homeless encampments. The ideal candidate will have experience working with vulnerable populations to better communities (both housed and unhoused) and improve quality of life. Candidates should expect to work in the field ninety percent of their time supervising the delivery of services. This is not a work from home or hybrid position.

    Selection Process:
