ABOUT LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. . The team member we are searching for performs journey-level steam fitting tasks in accordance with standard trade practices
Essential Job FunctionsSupervise apprentices and helpers.
Installs piping for steam and hot water heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, fire sprinkler, pneumatic tube carrier, power, compressed air, hydraulic, fuel oil and control systems.
Installs steam equipment such as boilers, burners, water heaters, radiators, heat exchangers, sterilizers and presses, and accessories such as pumps, governors, traps and valves.
Diagnoses operating malfunctions and repairs equipment and piping systems.
Installs, calibrates and repairs various pneumatic, electric and electronic instruments and controls.
Checks installations for conformance with legal requirements and safety codes.
Inspects water main fire hydrants, service lines, fire hose and extinguishers.
Installs and repairs iron pipe railings, supports and frames.
Maintains tools and equipment

Requirements REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY : To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following qualifications at the time of hire and provide supporting documentation to the hiring team.
Option I: A minimum of five years of steam fitting experience, including working in a powerplant and hydraulic equipment. This must include at least one year of experience in heating and air conditioning related to building construction, and one year at the journey -level*.
*Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenti ceship program or is an experience worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.
Option II: Completion of a five-year steam fitter apprenticeship program**.
* *Applicants who expect to qualify under Option II, must provide a legible photocopy of their apprenticeship training certificate at the time of hire.
Applicants who have already competed the training program can attach a legible photocopy of the required certificate(s) to the application at the time of filing. LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License is required in order to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE: I ncludes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds .
Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT: This examination will consist of an oral interview, weighted 100%, which will assess the applicants job preparation, knowledge and skills, interpersonal effectiveness and oral communication.
Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment in order to be placed on the list.
