    Job Summary

    Under general direction, the IPCDC Infant/Toddler Cook is responsible for the full range of duties associated with the implementation of a daily nutrition program for approximately 45 Infant and Toddler children and 16 to 20 adults. This position will also support the preschool and school age food program as needed. The Part Time Cook will prepare meals and create menu plans for breakfast, lunch and snack; food and food supply shopping with the Preschool Cook, order, and receive and inventory; food preparation, cooking and dispensing; clean up; maintenance and organization of equipment, utensils, work and storage areas. Additional planning and preparation is required for children with special dietary needs and/or restrictions. Incumbent is responsible for adhering to the requirements of CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) including record keeping and compliance with all licensing and public health regulations and the IPCDC meal and children’s program policies and procedures including guidelines for interacting with children.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Preparation and Service of Breakfast, Lunch, and Snacks - Prepare and cook all food groups. Provide appropriate food substitutes for differing food needs of children and judge food quality.
    • Four Week Menu Cycle Planning - Plan for dietary accommodations. Update Menu as needed and based on CACFP guidelines.
    • Documentation and Record Keeping - Document and store required criteria for CACFP Food Program i.e. Menu Production Records, Menu's, Food Order Logs
    • Kitchen Maintenance - Ensure safety measures regarding food handling sanitation are in place and followed.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Experience with meal and menu planning; food purchasing and ordering in large quantities, receiving, inventorying supplies; record-keeping. Ability to use discernment and good judgment when interacting with people. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with staff to meet the needs of the department. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position, and to adhere to the time limits.

    Skill in sound time management including prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner. Flexibility with changes in workload, under pressure of deadlines, competing requirements, and constant interruptions. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices including office security and a safe working environment.

    Ability to prepare and cook all food groups. Ability to provide appropriate food substitutes for differing food needs of children. Ability to judge food quality. Ability to determine food quantities necessary for groups of varying sizes. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to operate kitchen machinery. Working knowledge of kitchen sanitation. Working knowledge of safety measures regarding food handling sanitation. Working knowledge of safety measures regarding equipment operation in storage and care of food. Working knowledge of procedures used in the operations, cleaning and are of utensils, equipment and work areas.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    • Equivalent to one year of experience performing the duties of a Food Service Worker I or equivalent to one year of experience in assisting a cook in the preparation and cooking of a varied menu required.

    • Two years’ experience in planning, cooking and distribution of foods in large quantities, preferred.

    • High School Diploma or general GED preferred.

    Physical Summary
    • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

    Licenses / Certificates

    • California Food Safe Serve Certification required.

    • CA Driver's License and proof of personal auto insurance required.

    • Livescan required.

    Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $2,800 - $3,300 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $2,530 - $3,596 per month.

    Time Base

    0.75 time-base, part-time.

    Duration of Appointment

    This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

    Additional Information
