    The Nevada County Public Health Department promotes the health of the entire community through varied programs ranging from control of communicable diseases and coordination of the response to health emergencies to individual case management to primary prevention of disease and wellness promotion.     Our Truckee office is seeking a Temporary Clinic Practitioner, a classification combining the professions of Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant. The Truckee Clinic Practitioner organizes, directs and provides a spectrum of primary health care and other clinical services for clients in a general or specialized health clinic. Our Clinic Practitioners work collaboratively with the Public Health Officer in the formulation and implementation of selected policies, standardized procedures, and professional protocols related to assigned functions. They oversee, direct and supervise the day-to-day operations of health care delivery, performing related work as required.

    Incumbents may be assigned to different areas of specialty, consistent with their academic and clinical training. Incumbents provide health care services and perform clinical procedures requiring possession of advanced knowledge and skills and the exercise of a high degree of clinical judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients. Medical direction is received from a licensed physician, and administrative direction from a program manager and director.
    The ideal candidate will:
    • Hold a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or related field. Post-graduate coursework sufficient to meet licensure. One year of clinical experience in the desired specialty area.
    • Bring value to a strong, engaged team whose mission is to prevent disease, promote and support optimal health and wellness, and protect the community against disasters.
    • Be committed to and participate in the department’s ongoing work towards diversity, inclusion, and equity.
    • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to adapt their communication style to meet the needs of both internal and external customers.
    • Work independently, able to prioritize work and remain flexible when priorities shift.
    • Be a detail-oriented self-starter who can apply critical thinking skills to daily work and special projects.
    • Provide excellent customer service utilizing emotional intelligence to assist customers at both ends of the life cycle.
    • Be software/system intuitive.
    • Possess strong Microsoft Office suite skills, especially Excel and Word.

    This position is temporary, part-time. A temporary, part-time employee works on average 20 hours but not more than 29 hours per week, for a maximum of 1000 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employees earn sick leave but are not eligible for other vacation or holiday pay, and they are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits, or CalPERS retirement benefits.

    Sick Leave:

    Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

    Medical Benefits:

    Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.

Summer temperatures are typically mild, with average highs near 85 degrees in July. Rain in January typically averages ten inches per year and the highest elevations receive an annual average of 206 inches of snow.

    Scenic trails, alpine lakes, the Yuba River and the Sierra Nevada Mountains all support numerous recreation activities, including skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, hunting and backpacking. With a calendar packed with street fairs, festivals, art exhibits, local theater and children’s activities, visitors and locals can experience small-town life without having to forgo indulgence in pleasures more typical of an urban setting.

    Nevada County is a creative hotspot in the Sierra Nevada, offering an array of experiences, including concerts, film festivals, street fairs, dance performances, poetry readings, studio tours and galleries.
