The Position Positions in this series manage, supervise and participate in wildland fire suppression; fire prevention and education; presuppression; equipment and facility maintenance; and forestry and fire law enforcement. Assist the Forestry Program Manager - Fire to ensure that the components of the divisions Wildland Fire Protection Program are managed and operated in an efficient, accurate and safe manner consistent with federal, State, and division regulations, policies and procedures.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located in Minden and is assigned to Air Operations with the Fire Program. As a Firefighter 2 under Air Operations, you are responsible for safe and effective fire response via helicopter while directing Seasonal Firefighters on initial attack and extended attack fire assignments. The positions are required to have extensive knowledge in all aspects firefighting tactics and strategies, fire line leadership/incident management, and aviation operations. The positions will be required to maintain qualifications and proficiency relating to fire response, helicopter crewmember and hoist rescue related work. To conduct day-to-day state business, these positions may be required to have a working knowledge of state-required training and policy, ordering and procurement and natural resource enhancement through best management practices. These positions will be utilized to advance the Division of Forestry's mission and provide crew supervision on resource projects ranging from timber stand improvement, prescribed fire, insect and disease abatement, tree planting, wildfire damage mitigation, wildlife habitat enhancement and helicopter aerial reseeding. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of firefighting experience; OR two years of experience as a Firefighter I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions in this series are required to obtain and maintain a Nevada commercial driver's license with endorsements as specified by the agency. Special Requirements Applicants may be required to pass a thorough medical examination and physical agility test prior to appointment and for continuing employment. Positions in this series are required to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Incumbents must obtain additional certifications, as identified by the agency, within specific timeframes identified by the agency, and must maintain those certifications as a condition of continuing employment. All positions in this series must have certifications as identified by the agency at the time of application.
