    PAYROLL TITLE: Primary Care Clinic Physician

    • New Hire Incentive: New hires may be eligible for a one-time New Hire Incentive up to 10% of the current annual base wage. (Subject to the applicable section of the UAPD MOA (Sec. 712).
    • Deferred Compensation - Eligible to participate in the County’s 401(k) Shared Savings Plan and/or the Section 457 Plan. The position is eligible for up to a 3% match on your 401(k) contributions.
    • Health Plans - Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans for you and your dependents. You are afforded a flexible credit allowance of up to $25,558 annually.
    • Flexible Spending Accounts - Employees may also participate in the Flexible Spending Accounts which increase their spending power by reimbursing them with pre-tax dollars for IRS-approved dependent care and health care expenses.
    • Pension Plan - Both the County and you contribute to the County’s Retirement Plan and to Social Security. If you are eligible, you may establish reciprocity with other public retirement systems, such as CalPERS.
    • Holidays - 13 paid days per year which includes two (2) scheduled floating holidays.
    • Professional Memberships - Incumbents are also entitled to County-paid memberships in professional organizations related to their position up to $750 per fiscal year.

    The Primary Care Clinic Physician is an At-Will classification.

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
    • Provides comprehensive primary care services to patients of all ages, focusing on preventive care, chronic disease management, and acute care.
    • Conducts addiction medicine consults and manages patients with substance use disorders using evidence-based treatments.
    • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, including addiction counselors, nurses, and support staff, to provide integrated care. Consults with other physicians and providers, refers patients to specialists when necessary, and works with other healthcare staff, such as nurses, assistants, and other physicians.
    • Participates in care coordination and contributes to patient-centered care strategies.
    • Ensures timely documentation and compliance with medical regulations and clinic policies.
    • May train and act as a preceptor for fellows and/or residents located at community clinics.
    • Provides complete, comprehensive, family-oriented, culturally sensitive clinical care for patients including obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, making diagnoses, and treating patients.
    • Prescribes medications and treatment, monitors patients’ progress, and adapts treatment as required.
    • Advises patients concerning evidence-based lifestyle changes that improve patient health and works with patients to develop self-management goals.
    • Gives or determines the need for medical tests, orders laboratory tests as necessary; interprets medical tests.
    • Keeps accurate and timely medical records and charts and adheres to documentation policies. Prepares various records such as progress notes, comprehensive care plans, summaries, etc. Documents gathered information in medical record as required by policies.
    • Participates in meetings, conferences, and training sessions as determined by Ambulatory Care administration.
    • Complies with medical laws (for example, HIPAA).
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.


    Typical Qualifications

    These are entrance requirements to the recruitment process and assure neither continuance in the process nor invitation to an interview.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
    • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program
    • Degree in Medicine (either Doctor of medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy)
    • At least 3 years of residency training
    • Current state medical license and state DEA license
    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to meet the VCMC Medical Staff Credentialing requirements as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws .

    • Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
    • Board certified or Board eligible in Addiction Medicine.
    HIGHLY DESIRED:
    • Experience in both Primary Care and Addiction Medicine
    • Experience providing clinical supervision to interdisciplinary case management teams
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Combination of primary care and addiction medicine, with both full time and part time positions available
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
    Knowledge of:
    current developments, trends, best practices, and evidence-based guidelines in the medical field; addiction medicine; basic understanding of clinical supervisory principles and practices; pharmacology and psychopharmacology including laws regarding informed consent, dosage ranges, drug incompatibilities, and side effects; proper documentation of clinical services; principles, practices, and techniques of general medicine and its application; medical diagnosis and treatment; hospitals and clinics organization, communicable disease control; public health practices and procedures.

    Skill/Ability to: diagnose and treat patients; develop and monitor appropriate treatment plans; establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, staff and others; learn and apply laws, statutes, codes and regulations governing California health service providers, and Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements; effectively communicate to a variety of demographics including patients, their families, other clinical staff and stakeholders; maintain medical records and prepare reports; serve on interdisciplinary teams; clinically supervise licensed and professional staff.
