    PARKS CRAFTSPERSON I
    Pay Range: $24.00 to $29.11

    Construction work slowing down this time of year?

    The City of Olathe’s Parks Construction Crew is currently accepting applications for a Parks Craftsperson. This crew has the unique privilege of building parks for the residents of Olathe to enjoy. In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks from concrete to framing to roofing and everything in between. A typical day might include pouring concrete, repairing a structure in a park, gathering materials for the next project, and installing an art display.

    We’re looking for someone who has experience in carpentry, concrete, framing, or roofing; has a desire to learn and can pick new things up quickly; and likes variety and thrives in an environment where every day is different.

    Members of our Parks Construction Crew enjoy a year-round stable schedule, central work location, and quality tools and equipment. They receive an annual boot and clothing allowance, CDL training, and on-the-job training.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

    Pay Range: $24.00 to $29.11

    Key Responsibilities
    • Leads and participates in maintaining and/or constructing park structures and equipment; ensures a safe job site and follows City, County, State, and Federal standards.
    • Reads and interprets blueprints for maintenance and/or construction scheduling, cost estimating, and material ordering for park development.
    • Trains less experienced employees in construction and/or maintenance methods, techniques, and in the setup and use of equipment; verifies work of less experienced employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
    • Operates heavy machinery including mini excavator, skid steer loader, backhoe; drives a variety of vehicles including trucks, tractors, dump trucks with trailers, and forklifts.
    • Participates in snow removal operations and overtime activities as required.


    Qualifications

    Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in construction or facility maintenance and repair are required. One year of leadership responsibilities are preferred.

    Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional relevant and increasingly responsible experience may be substituted for education.

    Licenses and Certificates: A class A or B commercial driver's license is required within six months of employment; license requirement is based on area of assignment. Aquatic Facility Operator's Certification, Backflow Certification, or Certified Playground Inspector credential are preferred.

    Environmental or Physical Demands: The Parks Craftsperson works outside in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. They are exposed to wind, sun, rain, pollen, allergens, and other elements. This work requires one to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, crawl, twist, and reach frequently throughout the day. They lift and carry weight up to 80 pounds independently and up to 160 pounds with someone else. They operate a variety of hand and power tools used in maintenance and construction activities. They climb and descend ladders and stairs and work at heights. Job functions and locations require the need for alertness and safety awareness.
