  • Job Description

    Full-time position available with the Water Department, Laboratory Division located at 2 NE 32nd Ave
    Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Independently works in the field and sample receiving.
    • Performs professional environmental work performed in the laboratory and field.
    • Work involves responsibility for moderately complex situations, chemical handling, waste disposal, regulatory compliance and sample handling and receiving.
    • Assists with environmental activities associated with sample collection and laboratory sample receiving for environmental programs.
    • Assists in activities related to inventory and storage of chemicals, and supplies.
    • Conducts the sampling with other divisions in the department as per the sampling schedule, and with water customers.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in an environmentally related field, such as environmental science and related physical and life sciences, environmental engineering and related engineering specializations, environmental law and related legal specializations or environmental studies and related management, environmental planning and related urban planning specializations, environmental education, environmental policy, sustainability, and public administration specializations; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess of a valid state-issued drivers license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Preference given to applicants with experience in sample collection, field testing and working with a LIMS system or database.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
