    The Position

    Professional Engineer Managers plan, coordinate and oversee projects, programs and consultant contracts/agreements and perform licensed professional engineering functions.

    Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

    This position is located in Carson City within the Design Services Section of the Design Division. The incumbent will manage the planning, assigning and supervisions of the Scoping Section and the Estimating and Scheduling Section; develop policies and procedures for each section; manage the development of engineering conceptual designs, alternatives, preliminary estimates, and preliminary engineering project schedules; manage the Departments Five-year Plan; manage the performance measures assigned to the Design Division; interact and communicate with others throughout the Department and local agencies; direct, manage and train subordinate professional staff, evaluate performance, recommend and initiate disciplinary action when necessary and appropriate; organize, coordinate and delegate projects and assignments; and assist in budget development for the Design Services Section.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and two years of experience performing professional engineering work in a supervisory or responsible project charge capacity; OR one year of experience as a Supervisor, Professional Engineer in Nevada State service; OR licensure and two years of experience as a Staff II or Supervisor II, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR licensure and an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of continuing employment. As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks. Special Requirements Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of employment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
