DEFINITION:Exercises, under medical directions, administrative and technical supervision over the technical staff and activities of a radiographic department providing the full range of diagnostic X-ray procedures necessary to the operation of a general hospital such as Harbor-UCLA Hospital and Martin Luther King, Jr. Hospital.
Essential Job Functions- Directs the diagnostic radiographic function through subordinate supervisors, conferring with supervisors on personnel and other administrative as well as technical problems; evaluates workload and reviews the distribution of technologists to various posts, weekend, and callback duty.
- Functions as a resource for subordinate supervisors, consults and guides them in the alternative solutions to administrative and technical problems including personnel problems.
- Works with the clinical/medical leadership to develop, modify and implement modality system protocols, performing and maintaining accreditation of the assigned modality, developing, and implementing technical competencies.
- Serves as the department's chief representative or liaison with other hospital disciplines or service departments when coordinated effort is required to develop administrative systems, assure the effective management of patient care and the quality and timely delivery of radiographs.
- Under medical direction develops, modifies, and implements policies and procedures necessary for the effective operation of 24-hour, diagnostic radiographic services and participates in departmental planning for the evaluation, development and implementation of services and training.
- Evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors and reviews their evaluations of technologists and ancillary personnel; counsels subordinates on steps they may need to take to improve performance.
- Prepares, and justifies to supervisors, the annual budget for the diagnostic radiologic function; reviews workload data, equipment and space needs and evaluates the requests of subordinate supervisors.
- Conducts rigorous contract monitoring. Monitors local allocation of resources for purchasing and maintaining equipment, pursuing needed services, and procuring supplies. Reviews, reconciles, and approves invoices for the area.
- Inspects operations in diagnostic radiographic units to assure continuing conformance to quality and safety standards; takes action to correct deficiencies noted.
RequirementsSELECTION REQUIREMENTS: OPTION I Two (2) years' experience supervising personnel engaged in the performance of X-ray procedures in a hospital or clinic at the level of Supervising Radiologic Technologist I

Experience at the level of Supervising Radiologic Technologist I in the County of Los Angeles is defined as: Exercises direct technical and administrative supervision over a unit performing a variety of radiographic procedures.
OPTION II Two (2) years' experience as the education coordinator of a certified school of Radiologic Technology affiliated with a county hospital and approved by the State of California, Department of Health Services at the level of Education Coordinator, Radiologic Technology

Experience at the level of Education Coordinator, Radiologic Technology in the County of Los Angeles is defined as: Responsible for directing and coordinating a school of radiologic technology in compliance with standards established by State certification and licensing bureaus.
LICENSE: - A current, active certification as a Radiologic Technologist issued by California Department of Public Health -OR- A temporary permit to practice Radiologic Technology by California Department of Public Health.
- A current, active Radiologic Technologist Fluoroscopy permit issued by California Department of Public Health.

Provide the title of your required license, the certificate number, date of issue, date of expiration, and the name of the issuing agency for the required license as specified in the selection requirements. All required licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted, or your application will not be accepted.Applicants claiming experience in a state other than California must provide their Radiologic Technologist License Number from that state on the application at the time of filing. Out-of-State experience provided on the application without the required license number will not be considered.
PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light : This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional points will be awarded for additional experience in excess of the Selection Requirements.

EXAMINATION CONTENT :
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application information, desirable qualifications, and supplemental questionnaire, weighted 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be added on the eligible register. ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :

"as received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade on the examination will be placed on the eligible register and will appear in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS. VACANCY INFORMATION :
The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.
AVAILABLE SHIFT :
Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
