GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Under the direction of the Assistant Park Superintendent, Lead Ranger and UPO, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds, equipment operations and visitor services. Serves as the Back-Up UPO and assists in the operation, maintenance and repairs to the Wastewater Treatment Systems. Responsible for regulatory compliance in all utility operations and completion of required reports and laboratory testing as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers and power tools. Provides quality visitor services by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information and registers visitors using an automated registration system. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks and interprets the park's natural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience :
Three years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.
Licensure :
Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid State driver's license;
Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a class "D" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ);
Must possess or be able to obtain, within two years of employment, a class "C" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
NOTE : Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :
Experience :
Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience :
Experience working with water or wastewater systems;
Customer service and public relations experience;
Experience in commercial or residential plumbing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical maintenance and repair;
Knowledge of general facility, equipment and grounds maintenance techniques and repairs;
Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

Skill in using various hand and power tools and mechanized equipment;
Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

Ability to operate and maintain utility systems in accordance with TCEQ rules and regulations;

WORKING CONDITIONS :
Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;
Required to work 40 hours per week, includes flexible schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;
Required to respond to emergency situations;
Required to work long schedules during peak visitation demand;
Required to work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;
Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
May be required to operate a State vehicle;
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
Must conform to TPWD employee dress code, work rules and safety standards;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
