The Training Ship Golden Bear (TSGB) summer cruises serve as a seagoing training and educational experience for the students at Cal Maritime and several other maritime academies as part of their preparation for entering maritime related careers. About the California State University Maritime Academy: Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on the scenic Vallejo waterfront, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. Cal Maritime offers seven baccalaureate degrees in Business Administration, International Strategy and Security, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Transportation, and Oceanography. The undergraduate curriculum includes licensing programs for future merchant marine, coast guard, and naval reserve officers. Cal Maritime also offers a Master of Science in Transportation and Engineering Management degree, as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses. Major Responsibilities : The sick bay team typically consists of a physician, an FNP or PA, and a counselor. Having previous ER or urgent care experience and an enjoyment of life at sea are both beneficial. Duties for the position include a scheduled workday of approx. 8am-5pm, and occasional after hours care for treatment of injuries or illness. The physician and NP/PA staff the sick bay and provide basic medical care for a crew of approximately 350 students, staff, and faculty. Other duties include routine student physicals. There are opportunities for health education programming. A private stateroom and meals are provided. Airfare to and from the departure and arrival ports is provided as needed. Position Summary This position, under the direct supervision of the Nursing Manager, will be called upon to perform administrative and clerical duties in support of student health center operations as well as a variety of standard medical assistance tasks. While working to assist medical providers, the employee is under the supervision of a licensed professional. Medical Assistants perform a variety of medical technical support services within their scope of practice, as defined by the Medical Board of California. Medical Assistants may perform only those duties authorized by their supervising physician/nurse practitioner who, in compliance with applicable state regulations, must be present in the facility when the Medical Assistant is performing specific procedures. Position Summary This position, under the direct supervision of the Nursing Manager, will be called upon to perform administrative and clerical duties in support of student health center operations as well as a variety of standard medical assistance tasks.
