The Town of Truckee has an opening for a part-time seasonal construction inspector. This position will be tasked with assisting the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department on summer construction inspection, including monitoring and inspecting civil infrastructure construction (such as trails, roads, streetscapes, parking lots, utilities, drainage, and stormwater treatment); preparing daily inspection reports, compiling quantity measurements and calculations; maintaining construction records; and acting as a liaison between the Town, contactors, other agencies, and general public. The right candidate will possess experience in civil construction, construction inspection, civil design, and/or project management, as well as possess basic knowledge of Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel). Possession of a valid driver's license is required. It is anticipated that this position would be for the summer construction season only (May-October) and would require 10 to 40 hours per week depending on need. Night work may also be required. The Position The Town of Truckee is seeking a highly motivated team player with good communication skills and attention to detail to provide a variety of engineering, computer, and field duties in support of the Engineering Department. This full-time position is responsible for assistance and administrative support for the Engineering Division, including response to questions from the general public, private developers, and outside agencies; drafting and graphics preparation; GIS mapping and data management; technical writing; plan review; traffic surveys; and field work in the design, construction inspection, and monitoring of engineering projects as needed. Requirements include any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, such as one year of experience in a science, technical, or engineering-related field or an Associate’s Degree in drafting, engineering, or related discipline (Bachelor’s Degree preferred). This position is a support role for the Engineering Division, which works on a variety of Capital Improvement projects, including road construction, pavement rehabilitation, trail construction, streetscape improvements, intersection improvements (including roundabouts), creek restoration, Town facilities, and drainage improvements. In addition, the Division is responsible for engineering review of private development proposals, such as residential subdivisions, affordable housing projects, single-family residential, and commercial projects (such as the Truckee Tahoe Lumber Co., Raley’s, and High Altitude Fitness).
