Job Description and Duties LIFEGUARD II (SEASONAL) - SIERRA DISTRICT / LAKE TAHOE SECTOR Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. The ability to work outdoors in adverse weather and direct sun are required. Duties include This is the lead-person level for the seasonal lifeguard series. Under general supervision, incumbents perform all the duties of Lifeguard I (Seasonal) and in addition, assist in training; planning work schedules and assignments; dispatching and leading a group of seasonal lifeguards engaged in lifesaving activities. A Lifeguard II (Seasonal) must have the ability to follow directions; remain alert; analyze situations accurately; think and act quickly and take command in emergencies; establish and maintain good working relations; and communicate effectively. Detect and rescue persons and vessels in distress. Perform first aid and resuscitation procedures. Notify dispatch of accidents and rescues, prepare reports, remove hazards, assist the public and advise visitors of park rules and regulations. Assisting State Park Peace Officers during vessel operations. Desirable abilities include communicating effectively with co-workers and visitors; multi-tasking in a fast-paced, public contact setting; following directions; good customer service skills; preparing written and computer-generated reports. The purchase and wearing of a State Park Uniform will be required. State Parks grooming standards must be met. This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. Job Description and Duties FORESTRY AIDE (SEASONAL) - SIERRA DISTRICT Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKS program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKS recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKS eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. The reporting location is one of the following: Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, Empire Mine State Historic Park, or Plumas-Eureka State Park. Schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Multiple positions are available. The Forestry Aide works under the supervision of the Forester II and/or the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisory, with direction and guidance from crew leaders of the Fire Management Crew (FMC) and Natural Resources specialists. The Forestry Aide is a crewmember who regularly performs FMC crewmember duties. The position also provides assistance in forestry tasks such as tree marking, flagging, timber cruising, prescribed fire management, exotic plant control, hydrologic and soil disturbance monitoring, vegetation monitoring, and wildlife monitoring. This position works full time, but only on a seasonal basis approximately April - November, depending on project need and funding. During field and prescribed fire seasons, the position may work weekends, nights and overtime hours. The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment. This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. Working Conditions The Forestry Aide is a sub-professional position involved in forestry and prescribed fire work on state parks. This job includes the ability to perform a variety of manual labor work to restore and maintain natural resources, and requires working outdoors in inclement weather conditions and smoky conditions related to prescribed fire. The crew will occasionally spike camp at work sites throughout the district, and potentially throughout the state.
